I love spring and summer; therefore it only makes sense I was inspired to write a Dear God summer poem. These two seasons remind me of what I believe Heaven will be like. We fade like lilies, but God doesn’t and nor will our forever home. Today I wanted to share a bit of my garden with you.

Dear God

I adore how beautiful

the glimpses I get of You

through the fragrance of sweet summer

and by the rainbow of her blooms

~

I adore how lovely

the glimpses I get of You

through the birdsong in my garden

and by the flouncy flowers too.

But you remain the same,

and your years will never end.

I brought a section of an old hydrangea from our previous home and planted it in the new garden. Do you have special memory plants too?

This is a volunteer rose. She ain’t fragrant. But she’s reliable. Her way of doing it is better than some other rose’s way of not doing it. This is wisdom we would be wise to heed too. Don’t let the naysayers uproot you.

Speaking of volunteers. I love the way the pink mallows go with the purple butterfly bush.

This volunteer rose is as fragrant as she is beautiful. I had to advocate for her a couple of times when others suggested I remove her from blocking the garden shed entrance. As you can see, the rose and I won.

This is a Westerland rose my husband surprised me with a couple of years ago. We’ve had one before. We love the changing colors, second bloom time, and oh so sweet fragrance. She’s the queen.

I’m nosy-to-know what your favorite verse about heaven is?

  1. Beautiful flowers and photos, Wendy! I do have special memories of my flowers. Most have been given to me by friends and family. I also have memories of my children helping me plant them. Loved the poem. <3

    1. Thank you, dear Gail. 🙂 Yes, memories of “children helping” us in the garden are precious. If my grandson sees me pull out a dandelion, he wants to tug a weed out too. <3

  2. Lovely poem, Wendy. My mother’s irises, or flags as she called them, and her triple layered petaled orange dayliles are the memory flowers in my garden. I’ve moved starts of them from her home to every home I’ve had. My daughter has them in her yard, too. I also have lilac bushes which smell of her favorite perfume when they bloom and a snowball bush. I used a snowball bloom as a bow on mom’s birthday gift one year. I think of her every May when the bush blooms.

    1. Thank you, dear Catherine, for sharing a bit about your lovely garden.
Moms are always a great source for plants and planting ideas.
I hope my daughter and sons one day take some bits and pieces of my plants for their future gardens.
      🌿💐💛

  3. Beautiful poem, dear Wendy. My favorite verse about heaven is, “ “And they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them, “Come up here.” Then they went up into heaven in the cloud, and their enemies watched them.”

Can’t you imagine how lovely heaven’s flowers will be? ❤️❤️

    1. Thank you, dear Karen. 🙂 Although I have many things I’d like to do and complete here on earth, I still can’t wait for His call for me to come Home.
Oh, yes, the flowers will be amazing. <3

  4. I love that Westerland rose, and the poem! I do have a story about a gardenia. When it comes to Heaven the verse I love most is this one:

” In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.” John 14:2

    1. Wow, I have a post scheduled for tomorrow that features that verse. 🙂 Yes, I love that one too, dear friend.
The fragrance of gardenias is sure to be included in the gardens of Heaven. <3
      Thank you and blessings.
