Why do you lie there
Upon the bird littered bench
With only a worn wool blanket
To cover you as in bed?
Have you chosen to be
Amongst these vacant streets
With others much like you
Eating from discards as a feast?
How can you thrive here
Depending on false spirits
For your only hope
And when you run out of it…?
Yet, how can I judge one
When so many times myself
I don’t enter the door
That leads me to health?
Grace is there for us to take
And to think a man in suit
Is any better off than you
Is to miss the point and Truth.

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast.
Ephesians 2: 8

All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and the wind of our sins sweep us away.
Isaiah 64: 6

But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of him.
2 Corinthians 2: 14
Forgiven and saved by grace,

Touching poem, Wendy. I relate to how your heart sees things, my friend! I knew it the first time we met. So glad we’re back in touch.
Valerie, I cherish the memory of our first visit together after having met at church. It had been lonely in our new country home until then. Thanks again for that first visit and for our friendship that grew from it. ~ Wendy
Love this post! Thank you for sharing – so good!!

Beautiful photos and wonderful Scriptures!
Thanks for the comment & visit. His Word is full of life-giving treasures!
inspiring poetry, Wendy! I love it!! ♥
Thank you. When we see street people we can give them the gift of eye contact and a smile. They are someone’s sister, brother or in my case a niece. She died 5 years ago this month during recovery. Brittany was only 16 and she was trying to help some friends who had not crossed the recovery bridge yet. She was brave and beautiful!
Wendy, you are amazing! Love your blog and pictures.
Thank you for your generous comment. We are loved by an amazing God! ~ Wendy
That is a very moving and inspirational piece Wendy. God is everywhere and always!
Indeed! He must be if he knows the number of hairs on our heads and sees when a sparrow falls… God is love and I am lost without Him. ~ Wendy
The word bench caught my eye and I’m delighted it did. What a lovely place I found to take my soul for a visit today. I have a feeling this is a place I’ll be able to come to again and again and drink from the well. You’ve blended photography and words to perfection while placing a devotional on the internet for anyone to partake. Thank you. Sheri
Sheri, you’ve blessed me so much with your kind words. Ever since reading Catherine Marshall’s books, in the 1980s, I’ve wanted to be an inspirational writer. Thank you!
Blessings dear new friend ~ Wendy
