A Labor Day of Love: A Marriage Memoir Moment

A Labor Day of Love: A Marriage Memoir Moment by Wendy L. Macdonald wendylmacdonald.com There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear... 1 John 4:18 NIV

Have you ever said, “Yes,” to an adventure that made you tremble with fear at just the thought of it?

I wish I could say I’ve always allowed perfect love to cast out fear that’s entered my heart and mind.

Thankfully, I’ve learned to allow love to lead me more often. One such time was when I trusted my husband’s guidance as we went on a weekend camping adventure in the West Coast wilderness.

~ <3 ~

Come with me

On an adventure for two

I promise you won’t regret it

If you’ll only say, “I do.”

Come with me

For a lifetime of love

I promise to cherish you forever

If you’ll only be my dove.

  1. Thank you, Wendy. The night before I left to go to my first Army assignment, I had a moment of fear like none I had had before.I rebuffed the fear quickly, remembering the words of a Frank Herbert character, “Fear is the mind-killer.”

    1. What a wonderful thought you chose to dwell on, Michael. Fear kills so many good ideas before they can get out the door. God gives us power to obey when we submit our fear to Him. I’m going to remember the quote you mentioned.

  2. Thanks for sharing this true romantic story, Wendy. Thanks for showing us that we can let go of our fears and accept life as an adventure with the people we love on earth and with the God who loves us way more than we know how to love him.

  3. This is beautiful, Wendy. Thank you for sharing. I find that I frequently remind myself that “perfect love casts out fear”. Some times the very things I fear end up either not being so bad after all and/or a true blessing.

    Blessings,

    Kim

  4. Thanks so much for this encouragement, to step out and trust the Still Small Voice. You took us right there and showed us what can happen when we take a chance! What adventures and lessons we often forfeit when we’d rather sit back and watch?! Sending you much love, dear Wendy

  5. Hi Wendy, I just found this post after searching for “Memoir.” How funny, I just wrote on my blog about my mental tug of war between wanting to see Hemingway’s Key West home and being afraid to travel on the Oversea Highway (7 mile long bridge) you have to cross to get there. Your post makes me think I’m on the right track in saying I’ll go … thanks!

    1. Susan, I love those serendipity/Providence moments. I had one of those yesterday when our pastor’s sermon reminded us to tune into God each day before we turn on our cellphones. My next blog post is about this very thing. So much for doubting my idea was worth writing about. 🙂 Bridges come in all shapes and sizes–don’t they? By the way, I enjoyed your post too.
