Our Comforter was absolutely there for me when I recently had a car accident. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured.
I wrote the following poem in my journal the next morning after a five-page-long entry. Writing is how I sort out my feelings. In a future post and podcast I’ve written, I share the whole story. But for now I want to encourage you to think about what you appreciate most about your faith.
Trust me, your faith is the top and bottom line when you’re miles from home
and you’ve totaled your car.
Our Comforter:
Whether we’re a victim or a culprit
God sees and knows it all
And He comes, cares, and comforts
In answer to our call
Whether we’re innocent or guilty
God already knows which
And He loves unconditionally
Each hurting child of His.

P.S. These pictures of the Gray Jays (Canada’s new national bird) were taken on our 34th wedding anniversary as we walked through Paradise Meadows.
I am the most grateful that even in the worst of days, God is still in control. There are so many things that have happened that I just could not understand at the time and did not like at all. Later, I look back and I am reminded that it wasn’t about me. It was for God to be glorified through the circumstances.

Beautiful poem! I’m thankful no one was injured in the car accident–cars can be replaced, people can’t be replaced.
I’m thankful that God comforts us even when we’ve made decisions that got us into an unbelievable mess.

There is a sense of comfort is knowing that nothing catches God by surprise, nothing happens to us that hasn’t first passed through His hands, and no one shows up at the gates of heaven unannounced. I’m grateful God protected you so that you can continue to bless us with your inspirational writing and fulfill the days He has decreed for your life.
“Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained for me were written in your book

Thank you for these comforting words, Gene. Yes, “nothing catches God by surprise.” Our family is experiencing a surprise of a different sort–but God already knew. He’s making marvelous out of every moment that catches us off-guard. Psalm 139:16 is the perfect verse for me to be reading right now. 🙂 Blessings, dear brother.
I was in an accident a little over a year ago that totaled my car. I know God was in that car with me as I wasn’t hurt at all. The other driver was kind, concerned, and forgiving of my error in judgment. I knew I nestled in God’s arms protected from harm and am so grateful to him for the reminder of the way he cares for me.
Thank you for letting me know I’m not alone, Norma. “Nestled in God’s arms” is the perfect way to describe how things were before, during, and after the accident. Life is hard–but God cushions our spirit when we lean into Him. <3
