Gifts in My Garden: Birdwatching and Blessings from God
I’ve been blessed to receive many gifts in my garden from the Creator of Earth and Eden. Lately, for various reasons, I haven’t been able to get out in the woods as much as I’d like to, so having the wildlife show up outside my back door (or outside my writing room window) is a bonus.
When I read the following verse, I thought of all the gifts God has given me through nature, family, and friends; I don’t deserve them. But God is good, gracious, and generous. God is love.
I am unworthy of all the kindness and faithfulness
you have shown your servant.
Genesis 32:10 (NIV)
The Downy Woodpecker is not an easy bird to get a clear shot of. I recorded a video to make sure I at least caught him in action. The ticking sound, you’ll hear, is from the lovely clock on my desk.

His Kindness
The kindness of the Lord
Is undeserved by anyone
But God’s love is gracious
Through the Spirit and His Son
And the mercy of the Lord
Has brought me to my knees
In adoration and praise
Of all He’s done for me.

Yesterday I caught the flash of red as a male cardinal flew across my back yard. He was quickly joined by his less glamorous mate. At the same time, there were juncos! Haven’t seen those in some time. Cute little guys that look as if God dipped their tummies in cream 🙂 Of course we get the chickadess and blue jays. I’m so thankful for enough trees on our property to lure the winter birds.
Linda, I’m green for your red cardinals. 🙂 I’ve never seen one (except for the vintage ornament I have hanging on my wall). Yes, I love how you put that: “as if God dipped their tummies in cream.” Our Creator sure knows how to make beauty.
No cardinals up in your world? I didn’t know that. They are so beautiful, especially against a pure white snow.
I think there may be some in Eastern Canada. Yes, my fake cardinal looks wonderful against the white wall. 🙂
so lovingly beautiful…

Our Father’s world is fabulous and has inspired so many lovely stories and songs –including yours. Blessings, dear Morgan. <3
Very nice! I love watching all the beauty of birds at the feeder😊
Thank you, Andy, for reminding me about feeders. Our neighbors have them; we have the trees the birds hide in when the hawks arrive. But I’d like to hang up a feeder near our dining room. Mind you—I’ll end up watching my feathered friends all day long. 🙂
That’s great and if you place your feeder close to the window you can get the most wonderful photos of such a variety of birds all year long.
I now know what I want for Valentine’s Day. It will be a gift to our whole family; for each time we dine, we’ll watch the birds dine too.
I’m excited for you!!! 😃
So beautiful! You capture the most amazing photos.
Thank you, dear Eliza. It’s nice to meet you.
Likewise, friend!
Thank you for blessing us with your photos and video and His word! You have helped me see His goodness and gracious all around me today! :).
Thank you, dear Debbie. I’m thankful for the nudges and guidance of the Holy Spirit who helps me notice more of His handiwork. <3
love the birds in your garden and the owl pictures are wonderful. Am learning to rest and hand control over to others – not a simple task! But knowing we are held in the palm of His hands…
Thank you for reminding me of the peace in His palm. I need this reminder–daily. <3
Very nice! 🙋🐦
