So Long Sweet Summer
*****************************
So long sweet summer
I’ll miss the warmth of your sun
as autumn cools the air
and I read by the south window
under a soft wool shawl
instead of out in my garden chair
~
So long sweet summer
I’ll wait patiently for your return
when three seasons have passed
and like a faithful lover
you bring me fresh flowers
because we’re reunited at last.

How can you tell that I love summer?
Thankfully there’s beauty in each season.
It’s true for the seasons of our lives too.
~
~
I’m choosing to live in today.
So often I’ve waited for something special to happen
only to see the unexpected take its place.
There’s beauty in the unexpected
if I trust that God is in it.

My prayer list has grown longer with time.
Yet each prayer has been simplified:
Thy will be done.
~
I’m at peace waiting for the Lover of my soul to return.
He will bring me to forever summer.

What changes have happened to your prayers over the years?
Who are you waiting for?

Beautiful words, beautiful photos, beautiful post! Peacefully waiting for Him, too! Blessings ~ Laura
Thank you, dear Laura. ❀ “(He) alone is the real joy giver…”
Those mushrooms!!!!! AMAZING!
Thank you, Laura. ❀ My husband pointed them out to me.
You’re welcome 🙂 Glad he found them.
Thank you for sharing your poetry and photographs..! I enjoyed both very much..!
Thank you, Jim. ❀
This blessed me so much! Thank you so much for sharing it.
Blessings,
Theresa
Thank you, Theresa. ❀ Blessings on your weekend.
Spectacular, Wendy! Here in Texas, we’re glad to see the end of summer 🙂 I’ve been to Canada in summer and it’s beautiful. I’ve also been to Canada in winter – I understand why you don’t want summer to end 🙂
Thank you, Bill. We normally don’t get much snow in our valley, but we do get MANY gray days of rain. I heard about the very hot summer you folks had down there (don’t forget to send some sunshine up this way). ❀
Such beautiful photos Wendy. I think I like the mushrooms best! you captured them so well. I’m not waiting anymore. i’m just thankful for every day. Because there is a blessing always. Like yesterday when I found parking in our local parking garage that has been overfilled for months because motorola moved to the city and all those new people are now commuting. So i circled around, and to my surprise, someone was getting rid of the sign that said “permit parking” and was pasting on top of it: “public parking”! woo hoo! And because he hadn’t painted the # on it, it was free. It was a small miracle, but I was thankful for it. And it made me remember those happen everyday. Thank you for your beautiful pictures, I’m thankful for them today.
Linda, you’re wise to notice and rejoice in the small miracles that happen each day. I suspect that you notice them more than many others would because of your thankful attitude.
Thank you. You’ve inspired me to keep my eyes and heart open today–in every moment. ❀
Beautiful words and pictures
Thank you. ❀
I’m praying more for those who do not yet trust in God.
And I’m praying to trust Him more and more. ❀
Hard to say which season I like best. The flowers of spring, summer and fall each have their particular beauty. The snow in winter is also beautiful in its own way. But the Creator of the seasons surpasses them all!
Peace
Amen. He is “beautiful beyond description”. ❀
Very beautiful autumm and flower photo’s
Thank you, Marylou. ❀
Wendy,
As always, your poetry and pictures are beautiful, and very thought provoking today. God bless you!
Love,
Cheryl
Thank you, dear Cheryl. xo
Such lovely words and photos, Wendy. Yes, my prayers are much different in maturity–less demanding/impatient, more boldly confident in His love–that His answers will reflect He has my best interests at heart, no matter what.
Thank you. I like “more boldly confident in His love”. Amen to Him having our “best interests at heart”. I love your comment–I can relate to it so well. ❀
I thought you might.
Wendy:
Your opening poem is full of warmth and charm. The opening photograph is exquisite. Thank you for bring peace to our waiting. ~ Richard
Thank you, Richard. I just peeked at your post “Velvet Dusk” and I love it. ❀
Lovely photos and thoughts. I wish I were sorry to see summer end, but here in Texas, it’s a blessing when it’s finally over, especially August.
Sadly sometimes it’s not over until well into October, but this year, though not perfect, we are having a very nice start to autumn. Hugs, N 🙂
Thank you, Natalie. I’m so glad to hear that you’re having a lovely start to autumn. I have to admit that I’m happy not needing to spot water now that our rains have come. Hugs & blessings. ❀
So beautiful and perfect, Wendy! Yes, as the years and seasons go by I find I am only waiting for Him and how He will show up each day! God bless you!
Thank you, Debbie. Your words, “how He will show up each day”, blessed me. ❀
A beautiful post of acceptance, gratitude, hope, optimism all wrapped delicately in your stunning photography. Just fabulous Wendy. You brighten my days. 😊 x
Thank you, Christine. xo Your poems and visits always brighten my day. Please give your sweet dog, Jack, an extra cuddle from me. ❀
Thank you Wendy! I will definitely pass on the cuddle for Jack! 😊

Beautiful poetry and photography sooth my soul.
Thank you, dear Mary. It’s an honor to have been a vessel to bless. God is good. ❀
There is beauty in each season, Wendy, as you say (although sometimes it is harder to find). And because of it, we appreciate summer all the more when it does arrive! Beautiful post as always.
Jennifer xo
Thank you, dear Jennifer. xo You live in a place of perpetual beauty. I always enjoy the pictures of NFL that you post. ❀
So long summer – but welcome autumn. Don’t you just love the beauty of each of the seasons?
Yes, Patty, I’m appreciating every season more because of my camera. It has trained me to be more observant. ❀
can’t wait to see some photos of autumn and winter!
Nicely done Ode to summer, Wendy. I was able to spend a day at the coast on the last day of summer, it was spectacular! Thank you for sharing your beautiful post! Blessings ~Zoey
Thank you, dear Zoey. I’m glad to hear you spent a day at the coast. Even if it’s the middle of the week, I feel like I’m on holiday when I’m at the beach. ❀
Wendy now you will have the silver dew drops on spider webs to play with. My husband prefers the soft light of Autumn or Spring for some real interesting photo’s. Your photo’s are so beautiful and I know you will still find beauty whatever the season.
Thank you, Kath. I love those dew drop pictures your husband takes, especially the ones on dandelions. I’ve already taken some raindrop ones this week. ❀
Awesome I look forward to seeing them and you really should check out vista prints and get some postcards of your work out there. Im hoping to get Petes photos onto postcards to sell in a local store soon. he does not think its worth it but I know how beautiful his cows are and people love them too.
Thanks for the idea, Kath. I’d like to do something with my favorite pictures one day. ❀
I miss summer, but the wonders of fall are beginning to unfold.
I agree, Patti. Each autumn I’m pleasantly surprised by the intensity of the colors. It’s nature’s fireworks. ❀
Beautiful, Wendy. I remember when the girls were tiny … and I dreaded them growing up … a dear friend said, “Every season is beautiful.” She was so right. I’ve loved each season they have come through. I miss the tiny one, but I love the current, blossoming one.
Summers are so hot in Texas that even in the morning, a retreat outside is unbearable. So, I’m loving this cooler weather. It’s almost time to buy a few pumpkins! If you get them too early, the heat turns them soggy quickly. But the leaves are starting to fall. 🙂
I have found my prayers changing somewhat from words spoken out loud to words written …
Thank you, Shelli. You’ve brought back memories of the semi-arid town I was born and raised in. If we go visit it in the summertime I can hardly stand the heat. Even in May it’s roasting. But in the wintertime I miss my hometown sunshine.
I love your idea of written prayers. It’s encouraging to read back and see how God has worked out his perfect will. ❀
A beautifully crafted artistic lament to the end of summer. Even though I share your feeling that each season has its beauty, somehow I feel sad as the colours fade and the leaves fall even though nature is preparing for the big sleep and will begin renewal…we have to patiently wait…live for today as you say. :-)x
Thank you. I like how you describe it as the big sleep. A large flock of Canada Geese flew over today. Yes, there is beauty in each season. ❀
What a beautiful and serene post you gifted us with today, Wendy. Your summer is leaving and our is just beginning. We all love and appreciate the changing of the seasons as each one carries its own special blessings.
Thank you, dear Mary. I’m enjoying the display of autumn colors in our garden. Yes, each season has blessings. ❀
Stunning pics, Wendy. I’m not sure I’m ready to give up summer, but now I see the leaves gilded and glowing and I might just be more receptive. 🙂
Thank you, Kim. Those beautiful fall colors do help to soften the blow. Hopefully winter will be gentler on Canada this year. ❀ I love your phrase, “gilded and glowing”.
Beautiful! Complete agreement: Even so come Lord Jesus! and “Thy will be done.” Is there a better prayer? Often hard to pray though! thank you! It’s been hard to see summer go this year. With my husband’s fall, we didn’t get to enjoy it as we usually would, but praise the Lord for His healing power!
Wanda, I agree there’s no better (nor harder) prayer than “Thy will be done.” He knows us better than we know ourselves. May God continue to bless your husband with His healing touch and you with His peace. It’s not easy to see a husband suffer. ❀
I adore how you pointed to the seasons in our life with these beautiful foliage images. Yes, we do have to find joy in all of our seasons. smile. BTW…the mushroom photo….magnifico.
Thank you, dear Laurie. My sweet husband pointed out the mushroom couple to me. ❀
Thanks for this beautiful post, Wendy. Bless you.
Thank you and rich blessings of peace to you both, Cynthia. I’m so glad to have read about you and your book on Gallivanta’s blog. ❀
