Some Days

Some Days

~~~~~~~~~
Some days are simply set aside
for resting of the soul
when doing just cannot be done
and stillness is the goal
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Some days are filled with silence
while listening for His voice
when waiting is the wisest way
and faith’s the finest choice
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Some days are meant for battle
when darts of doubt are shot
extinguishing them with written Words
from wisdom that I’ve sought
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Some days are gilded with glory
as answered prayers proclaim
that once again our Living Lord
formed beauty from our pain.
Ian and I recently went on a quest, one morning, to photograph some of our local scenery.  Normally I don’t find such a variety of birds in one outing.
It was one of those glorious and restful days…
Restful Blessings ~ Wendy
What do you like to do on a restful day?
~
He has made everything beautiful in its time.  He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.  Ecclesiastes 3:11
Heavenly Father, thank you for being so big that my mind cannot wrap itself around You.  And thank you for being such perfect love that my heart can be filled with You, after it has been cleansed with the sacrificial blood of your Son.
      1. Would you like some coffee or tea? 🙂 always so good to have you over … hope you enjoy your Sunday and that all your hard work in the garden soon bring fruit 🙂
        Blessings your way!
  1. Rest is such a gift! I’ve been practicing doing household chores and playing a lot with little A in the first half of the day so that we both are ready and free to put our heads down and rest in the afternoon. We both benefit (actually, the whole family benefits)!
    As a family, our rest takes different forms: my boy and I get lost in books easily…little A enjoys a good snuggly nap and someone reading to her or a few parts of a movie…my husband loves the British show “Top Gear”, some exercise, and always a good nap.
    It has been important for us to retain space for restful days. I’ve seen V trying to exist without resting and he suffered, body, mind, and spirit. Those were his residency days and were very tough.
    Great shots of local wildlife! I’m always excited to see a variety of birds around here, too!
    Enjoy the weekend, friend!
    1. Alison, I enjoyed reading your restful and cozy comment! My children always loved being read to and I found it just as restful being the reader. I still read to two of them in homeschooling, as we love sharing books. We have just started The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis (the second time for me) and they love it! It’s a fun book to read aloud to teens.
  2. I LOVE all of this, every word of the poem–and the lovely pictures! And Steve reblogged you–way to go, Wendy!! One small thing–has anyone else mentioned difficulty reading the text on this background? It could just be my aging eyes! God bless you–love, sis Caddo
    1. Thank you so much, Caddo, for letting me know about the words not showing up well. I have had one other person mention it and now I will work on it tomorrow. The letters show up clear on our screens, but that does not mean they will on everyone else’s.
    1. What a sweet comment, Laurie! Gentle get better hugs to you. Ironically, Ian and I were fighting a flu bug the day I took these pictures. We’d been resting but needed to get out of the house; however, we were not well enough to take our usual walk. Plus we were able to since the kids had already had this flu just before us ( and a worse version of it…). Take care dear friend.
  3. Different folks have different days of rest. I think that works in the Great scheme of things. Those who are not resting can help to serve those who are. Though some never rest completely…Like volunteer fire-fighters who are always on call for the Greater Good.
    Be well my friend. I enjoyed your birds very much. Thank you for your visits.
    1. I admire and appreciate first responders like fire-fighters and police officers etc. Would you believe two firetrucks drove by, today, as I worked on my post? I think when we hear a siren we could consider it a call for a short & simple prayer for all involved. It must be a very sad job some days. Thank you, Jules, for your visit and for your inspiring blog.
    1. Thank you, Marsha! I had not planned to write a prayer, but that Bible verse caused a spontaneous one. His Word is alive.
    1. Thank you, Melody! Rest is definitely getting to be a rare treasure in today’s fast paced world. Getting out into nature without any mobile devices is wonderful! (except a camera – of course)
  4. Today we had breakfast with my Mother. We went to our Grandson’s hockey game with another Grandson, then they both came here for overnight. We went to the park and ran up and down the artificial toboggan hill. That’s a relaxing day, the kind that doesn’t happen very often so it is truly a gift from God.
    Of course, your post is delightful – and relaxing!
    1. I loved hearing about your very Canadian day! My dad always built us an ice rink out back. Your Mother probably enjoyed breakfast immensely and more than anyone. Good on you!
      Blessings dear friend & neighbour ~ Wendy
      1. Yes, since Mother lives in an apartment in our house we have breakfast fairly regularly. And the boys actually went to sleep!
  5. Wendy, I am hushed by this post .. the poem and the photos .. so perfect. The wisdom He gives you and you share with us, is precious. I . ..can forget to ‘rest’. . .can think that I need to work on something all the time. So thank you for this post and reminding me that rest is not a bad thing, but a necessary thing. Today, I took Aubrey outside to swing and we watched the birds flying from tree top to tree top. A ‘rest’ blessing! God bless you and yours!
    1. Debbie, I need this reminder too! Thank you for your kind words. Aubrey reminds me of how much my sister loved to be outside in her swing. It was her favorite place to be. The gentle ones often help us to take those little rests.
  6. This is so true . . . somedays are just made for resting our souls and trusting in our Lord. Thank you for sharing this reminder with me. ~ God Bless ~
    1. Thank you for your visit, Deborah! I was so happy to find your blog in the Christian poetry category. We’re His artists who paint with words…
      Blessings dear new friend ~ Wendy 🙂
  7. My dear heavenly Father put me down with a cold this week – canceled everything and …rested! 🙂 So, I really enjoyed this blog. Thanks Wendy.
    1. “There is nothing new under the sun.” – Just different versions! Thank you, Marylin, for your lovely comment.
      Blessings dear new friend ~ Wendy 🙂
    1. Freya, how wonderful to have one land in your garden! It’s only happened to me once at our old home – it landed on one of our old buildings beside the pond.
