leaning into branch

all weathered and worn

Supported while suspended

until elements

have you torn

As you thrive in this moment

of elevated elegance

A tenuous and temporal status

that briefly

esteems your presence

Soon time tolls the bell

as you

too

succumb

to descent

So enjoy these moments of fall flair

for the end comes

your consent!

I think having written this while waiting in the doctor’s office, for my son to have his stitches removed, may have something to do with the mood of it… I was writing with the picture of my favorite fall leaf photo in mind – but surrounded by elderly people who struggle to stand when their name was called… It will be my turn soon enough!  And yours.
