Searching for my Favorite Season

Searching for my Favorite Season wendylmacdonald.com

Last week I diligently searched for signs of something I love. Each morning, I scrutinized the leaves of our rhododendrons in the hopes they no longer looked as cold as I felt each time I climbed out from under my multitude of blankets and quilts. Each time I glanced out the kitchen window, I searched for signs in the flower borders.

I searched for spring.

Behold, I make all things new.

Revelation 21:5 KJV

February is always a tough month for me to slog through. The relief of Christmas being over is long gone and a longing for warm weather creeps into my achy bones. Spring has always been my favorite season. It’s temperate, it’s kind.

I imagine Heaven will be perpetually spring-like in its freshness and newness. Flowers will always be vibrant and the lighting will be bright enough to be happy and mellow enough to be comfortable.

The flowers appear on the earth;

the time of the singing of birds is come…

Song of Solomon 2:12 KJV

Spring in the valley
Where flowers gather
To celebrate the new birth
Of a season of love
Spring in the valley
Where birds gather
To sing joyful praise
To our God above.

  1. The timing of this is amazing. Just last evening my beloved wife was commenting (almost depressed) how much she wanted, needed spring to arrive. I was just admiring the daffodils out front of Safeway yesterday afternoon, and thinking how nice they would look out front of the hedge lining the sidewalk. I love spring!

    1. Hi Damon, last night one of my sons commented he was looking forward to spring. I hadn’t realized he also searches for signs of it as longingly as I do. It seems to run in the family. 🙂 Our daffodils haven’t opened up yet. Soon.

  2. We moved almost exactly a year ago from the Okanagan valley to a small city in Saskatchewan. Spring has always been my favorite season–a reminder of Jesus’ resurrection and our hope–but it’s promise is still hidden under depths of wind-blown snow. Thank you for your lovely writing and photos. You have encouraged me to keep my eyes on the One who is our true Hope.

    1. Thank you, dear Kathleen, for your lovely comment. You’ve reminded me that no amount of snow or burdens can keep God’s promises from springing up in our lives. <3 Blessings on your new home sweet home.

  3. Beautiful words.

Spring came for us earlier this year and now, we are undergoing a rare hard freeze. I’m worried about all the gorgeous wildflowers the sprung up on our land. I am thankful that the daffodils haven’t bloomed yet. We are taking measures to protect a few by our backdoor as I adore looking out the window to view them.

    1. It can’t be long now . . .can it? :). Thank you for your sweet encouragements and the hope of Jesus you always share!

  4. Dear Wendy,
I have loved your recent photos of early spring wildflowers, and the thoughts they stir up! Spring is also my favorite! I wish it could last all summer, but then it would not remain the fresh and new season that we hold so dear. So I am holding onto hope, and waiting for those warm days to melt the deep snow. You are such an encouragement!

    1. Thank you, dear Bettie. We’re kindred spring sisters. xo We’re blessed to know the Hope we have in Christ; no matter how deep life’s snow gets, we are comforted by the warmth of His love.

  5. I enjoyed your blog post about spring. I think it is my favorite time of year-a time of renewal and hope!
I’ve been absent for a while, but am finally getting back to blogging.
Praying all is going well for you, dear friend!
    Blessings~💖🌞🌱🌺
