Solitude Harbor
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I’m anchored at dock once again
with a battered boom askew
May your Spirit’s breath fill this slackened jib
with your wisdom and power – anew
Forgive me for such arrogance
and a foolish sailor’s pride
to vainly face huge swells at sea
with no Captain by my side
I invite You to hold the helm
and watch o’er starboard and port
I’ll submit as devoted deckhand
and each moment to You report
Ship’s keel now submerged in Truth
I trim the sheets – not alone
We’ll leave this harbor of solitude
setting sail through the passage Home.
Navigating life’s waters requires an able-bodied crew with a Captain who not only can sail by the stars – but made them too!
Beautifully put, Wendy. Thank you.
Thank you, Don!
Beautiful imagery of spiritual truths, Wendy. And your photos make me homesick!
Thank you, Valerie! You should have seen it here yesterday – intense hailstorm!! The coastal climate is so moody but beautiful.
Beautiful photos, Wendy. The poem is a reminder that “without Him we can do nothing”. Some days at sea are peaceful and quiet but others are very scary as the waves swell and threaten to overturn our ship. His presence helps us not to fear. And His comfort is so very important when we feel alone or confused.
Daisy, I agree that “His presence helps us not to fear.” We need to be still in a rocky boat and not jostle about…
thought provoking words to go with beautiful calming photos!
Heather, I agree that nature is calming! Even during a hailstorm, last evening, we felt snug and safe as we watched creation’s performance through our window.
What a wonderful poem, Wendy, pointing to our Captain who knows how to navigated us through these rough waters of life! You are a talented poet! Thanks for sharing your gift with us…
Thank you for your generous words, Heidi! I have good memories of a short sailing trip in those waters. Thankfully it was a sunny, warm, and calm day!!
Great. And our captain never threatens us with walking the narrow plank. :>
Ian, you can always make me smile! 🙂
Wendy, this is beautiful. I love the ship analogy throughout…and relate to trying to go alone! Thank you for sharing…and oh, that photo…we have an awesome Creator! Patty
Thank you, Patty! Indeed we have an awesome Creator! I never tire of his art.
Wendy . .this made me cry. Just so so beautiful and honest and true. Thank you for writing what He wants you to. It touches us deeply. God bless you!
Thank you, Debbie! I was without the Captain for much of the first two decades of my life and was definitely sinking and going no where nice!! I need Him.
Blessings dear friend ~ Wendy xo
What an awesome God we serve….his faithfulness always at hand!
Teresa – Amen to “his faithfulness always at hand!” And in spite of our lack of faith – He still offers grace!
A quite diffrent post? No it is not… Great mission it the same. I like …
Wanda, you are very perceptive! I wrote this poem before I had the picture. Normally I write in response to one – which I prefer…
Looking to the future…I’d love to sail the stars.
Nice write. Cheers.
Thank you, Jules! I’m not good astronaut material, but I love being out in a boat!
Wendy, what a great image for solitude. I sure could use some in my life right now…it seems like the only time I can hear from HIM is in this state♥ Blessings to you!
Laurie, what you’ve said sounds familiar. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night, briefly, and find myself acutely aware of a concern I’d been ignoring – so I say a short prayer and fall peacefully back to sleep. With our full house it’s the only time it’s quiet…
I used to live in a small harbour town and got to be in boats often. A part of me came to life on the water, and even in the terrifying waves and threatening storms I had a sense of peace. Odd for a land-rooted farmer, eh? When one of our daughters joined the Navy that was quite a thing.
I like your sustained metaphor. The boat photos came as a return to those happy days, since it is now years since I was in a boat. Maybe…
How exciting for your daughter to be in the navy! Ian and I were born and raised inland – far from the ocean. As newlyweds we moved to a small island for a couple of years and bought a small boat for transportation. It was like moving to another world. We have lived near the ocean since. But we no longer need or have a boat.
I don’t have enough great words to say about this, Wendy–it’s fabulous, exquisite, perfect–hey, I wish I could have written it, so THANKS! God bless you! love, sis Caddo
Caddo, I would love to see you do your own version of this poem. You are more experienced and have a much broader vocabulary than I do. Let me know if you write one. Hugs!
Beautiful words and images, dear Wendy. It brought back to my mind a dream I once had. I saw myself in a small boat, alone, on tempestuous seas. As my focus expanded, I saw that the boat, with myself in it, was being held in the Hands of God. Bless you.
Lizzie, that is an awesome dream and so comforting! Hugs! I love vivid dreams that have a good message.
