Solitude Harbor

I’m anchored at dock once again
with a battered boom askew
May your Spirit’s breath fill this slackened jib
with your wisdom and power – anew
Forgive me for such arrogance
and a foolish sailor’s pride
to vainly face huge swells at sea
with no Captain by my side
I invite You to hold the helm
and watch o’er starboard and port
I’ll submit as devoted deckhand
and each moment to You report
Ship’s keel now submerged in Truth
I trim the sheets – not alone
We’ll leave this harbor of solitude
setting sail through the passage Home.

Beautiful photos, Wendy. The poem is a reminder that “without Him we can do nothing”. Some days at sea are peaceful and quiet but others are very scary as the waves swell and threaten to overturn our ship. His presence helps us not to fear. And His comfort is so very important when we feel alone or confused.

I used to live in a small harbour town and got to be in boats often. A part of me came to life on the water, and even in the terrifying waves and threatening storms I had a sense of peace. Odd for a land-rooted farmer, eh? When one of our daughters joined the Navy that was quite a thing.
I like your sustained metaphor. The boat photos came as a return to those happy days, since it is now years since I was in a boat. Maybe…

How exciting for your daughter to be in the navy! Ian and I were born and raised inland – far from the ocean. As newlyweds we moved to a small island for a couple of years and bought a small boat for transportation. It was like moving to another world. We have lived near the ocean since. But we no longer need or have a boat.

Beautiful words and images, dear Wendy. It brought back to my mind a dream I once had. I saw myself in a small boat, alone, on tempestuous seas. As my focus expanded, I saw that the boat, with myself in it, was being held in the Hands of God. Bless you.
