Maple Frost

~~~~~~~~~~~
Maple caramel frosted leaves
your edges look brittle and sharp
Do keep your silver-plated trim
for it warms my wintry heart
I love your blanket of earthy gold
that surrounds your mother tree
How kind and thoughtful you’ve become
to embellish her so tenderly.
My children have already shown tenderness to their mother.  They often warm my wintry heart…
    1. My hands are just thawing as I type this for my daughter and I were outside admiring the frost together. She again pointed out some neat stuff to photograph… I look forward to your frosty poem, Caddo! I like the idea of being on the same wavelength as you dear friend!
  1. How sweet that you are enjoying the world and its beauty with your children. I love seeing things through their eyes when they notice something I’ve missed! Blessings to you and yours tonight! –Alison
    1. You are right, Alison, that they see things that we miss. It helps that they are not composing grocery lists etc. in their heads; they live in the moment. Adults need to do that more!
      Blessings to you, dear friend, this weekend ~ Wendy
      1. I’ve been reminded to live in the moment more recently: driving our kids and my parents home from a concert at L’s school last night (V. was in his car since he had met us there after work), we nearly got hit by a police car going over 50 mph, who ran a red light, not using his siren or flashing lights. Good brakes, a quick reaction, and mostly God’s protection kept us safe. Then today, there was a school shooting in a little town right near where I grew up. Little children died. My heart is reeling and I am hugging my kids extra tight and knowing that Jesus is our only hope! I need to write about all of these things but my mind is tired!
        1. Would you believe I got hit by an ambulance, 34 years ago, while I was driving? He wasn’t going fast and had no lights or siren on since he was just following up on an already attended accident scene. He was in the wrong lane and I was making a left hand turn to avoid the congestion up ahead… They have the right away all the time. It was my only accident and I was not charged or anything. Yikes – it could have been worse!
          I posted my post today before I knew about the shooting. It seems ironic, now, that I wrote about children being tender while someone else’s child has shot both his mother and other children. I cannot even begin to imagine the depth of pain that that community is going through – never mind the victims’ friends and families. Life is hard enough without this kind of craziness added to it. We need to pray for the grieving ones to be able to get through this okay. It’s going to be tougher than tough.
          Someone threatened one of my kids with a knife, once, and we’re still dealing with the trauma that caused. We moved to get away from that bully. The bully has since been picked up at least once by police for other reasons… Even in this, we have forced ourselves to pray for this wayward one. Hate only poisons the hater.
          I hope that you have a restful sleep. Hugging your kids extra sounds like a great idea, Alison!
    1. We had some this morning too. It’s our version of snow – for now! In the meantime I visit your blog, Melody, to get my snow fix…or drive up our mountain.
        1. Well, Melody, it is rubber boot weather here right now… The heavy rains woke me a couple of times in the night. 🙂 Guess I better come on over to your place for some fluffy brightness!
    1. Thank you, Debbie! I am very grateful that my children bless me. After that tragedy, today, I appreciate it even more. May God grant those poor families the comfort they will so desperately need.
    1. Good morning, Paulama! It’s stormy and rainy here today. My laptop computer and a hot coffee are keeping me cozy; and of course my little dog! Ian makes good coffee. Enjoy your sunshine for the both of us. 🙂 Hugs!
