Our oldest son loves the outdoors. This is one of the places he has led us to.
He has discovered so many awesome places to walk.
Whenever he wants to encourage me to come, he’ll say that it’s a great place to take photos…
I really think he’d be great at publishing a book of “Vancouver Island Hikes”.
He loves taking pictures and he is a fearless hiker.
Our son has been up (too) close to elk, deer, bear, raccoons, beaver, and even a cougar!
But having lost an only niece to the ravages of street drugs…
I am happy to have a son who loves the company of nature.
Nature does not ravage us.
Sadly, humans have not been so kind to the wild woods.
Yet, it continues, where still intact, to bless us with its healing balm.
My husband understands this power.
When I received the news of my Dad’s death many years ago…
He took me, the same day, to our favorite forest trail.
This trail that I am showing you, right now, is along the river my husband and I were baptized in.
Trust me… it is colder than it looks!
But it was worth every shiver.
I hope you have a healing place to visit too.

Thank you! I am truly grateful for all the parks available to the public. Nature has a story to tell if we will listen.
It bows to our Creator.

How beautiful that you were baptized in that river. You’ve got me thinking now, whether I have a place of refuge, of healing, where I live now. I’m not sure! I can think back to when I was in college and lived right near Audubon Park in New Orleans, and used to make lap after lap around the root-filled perimeter path as I sorted through all the details of life. The heat and humidity can be so extreme down here, that I suppose my places of refuge are not so much specific places, but situations–meaning, when the kids are in bed for the night and I can have some time to myself. Fall always makes me miss hikes through woods, though. I think when the weather starts cooling down, V. and I will enjoy more time on our porch swing in the evenings.

Your hiking trails look so very inviting. We have had the chance to visit the Island a few times and I absolutely love hiking in those majestic woods – truly, as you say, a healing place for the spirit.

Beautiful pictures of nature! The place looks so green, fresh and peaceful.
I just don’t understand why some people just can’t appreciate nature. Yesterday I had a quarrel with the apartment manager of the place I live in. They cut off 4 trees in the apartment compound for no concrete reason, very frustrating, I was too late to stop the madness.
