Myrtle’s Game: A Children’s Book by Cynthia Reyes

Myrtle's Game: A Children's Book by Cynthia Reyes

I asked my Facebook friends which photo of me reading to my grandson I should use to promote my dear friend’s book on my social media sites. Before I tell you which one won, please allow me to introduce you to Myrtle the Purple Turtle.

I met Myrtle through Cynthia Reyes‘ beautiful blog. It just so happens I have a soft spot for turtles. I even collect turtle brooches.

Cynthia Reyes’ new book (that she co-wrote with her daughter Lauren Reyes-Grange): Myrtle’s Game is a hit in our home. Cynthia and I have been blogging friends for a few years now, and I’ve read and loved each book she has written. Her memoirs are poignant and her children’s books are spot-on inspirational for esteem-building in children (and for the adults reading them too).

When she generously sent me a copy of Myrtle’s Game before I had a chance to purchase it myself (As you can see in the pictures, I’ve been busy grand-parenting the sweetest lad on the planet.), I couldn’t wait to read it to you-know-who. Thank you, dear Cynthia.

I’ve blogged about Cynthia before, so if you would like to know more about her, please check out this post here: Myrtle the Purple Turtle. She is a lovely hostess on her blog, so be sure to visit and follow her there too.

Grandchildren are the crowning glory of the aged;

parents are the pride of their children.

One of the things I enjoy about grand-parenting, besides reading books to my grandson, is reciting old poems and rhymes I told to my own children. And of course, I also shared the ones I made up over two decades ago. Ones like:

Swing low

Swing high

Swing way up in the big, blue sky

Where the clouds are white

And the birds fly by

And you kick your feet up in the sky.

This verse is perfect for singing while pushing your youngster on a swing.

This week I made up a short poem about snow. Cause it snowed here.

Snow on the trees

Snow on the ground

Snow on the leaves

Snow all around.

Children love it when you sing to them. So go ahead and make up a tune or poem for everyday things.

Drum roll, please. The last picture shown below won. But since there were several that came close, I decided to use most of them for this post.

Have you ever made up a poem or song to sing to a child? I’m nosy-to-know.
