The Bench Warmer

Why do you lie there

Upon the bird littered bench

With only a worn wool blanket

To cover you as in bed?

Have you chosen to be

Amongst these vacant streets

With others much like you

Eating from discards as a feast?

How can you thrive here

Depending on false spirits

For your only hope

And when you run out of it…?

Yet, how can I judge one

When so many times myself

I don’t enter the door

That leads me to health?

Grace is there for us to take

And to think a man in suit

Is any better off than you

Is to miss the point and Truth.

My afternoon tea and devotional

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast.

Ephesians 2: 8

Hint of autumn…

All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and the wind of our sins sweep us away.

Isaiah 64: 6

Rose in our church parking lot

But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of him.

2 Corinthians 2: 14

Forgiven and saved by grace,
