Christmas Prayer & Memoir Podcast

Christmas memories last longer than greeting cards and are a blessing to share with friends and loved ones for years to come. (Especially while we’re making new ones.)

I’d like to invite you to listen to one of my favorite Christmas memories that involved a fervent prayer and a simple desire. I promise you it’s as sweet and brief as shortbread.

Delight yourself in the LORD,

and he will give you the desires of your heart.

Psalm 37:4 ESV

~

It Doesn’t Hurt to Ask

I thought I’d hidden

the desire of my heart

and buried it deep

 within the dark

~

But God helped me see

  asking’s not in vain

as He brought sweet comfort

to ease my pain

~

I then learned a lesson

about prayer at last

that I can fully trust God

and it doesn’t hurt to ask.

  1. My favorite Christmas movie as well! Wonderful memories Wendy, and an inspirational look at faith in both small and large ways. Merry Christmas my friend.

    1. Thank you, Gene. I don’t think my husband has ever missed a Christmas without seeing it. Weirdly, after that night, the old VCR didn’t work anymore. It was meant to be. 🙂 Merry Christmas to you both, dear friend.

  2. Thank you so much for reminding us that our memories outlast the gifts. My favorite Christmas memory was an intangible gift my father gave me almost 30 years ago. When I left as newly married, the day after Christmas, to move out of the country, he gave me a key to the front door of my childhood home. He said, “We will always be here and the door is always open for you!”
Over all these years, this memory makes me think of my Heavenly Father, whose love is eternal and whose home is open to anyone who wants to go there. The key is Jesus!
Thanks for stirring this memory in my soul! Merry Christmas to you and your family, dear Wendy!

  3. I have a secret prayer that I’ve been hesitant to whisper in God’s ear. With this story as encouragement, I will. Thank you, Wendy.
