Nature often looks more naughty than nice

when I’m taking shots with my camera.

~

I’ve

watched

eagles sparring,

seagulls pecking at

spawning salmon, and

this poor creature caught in

the beak of death. One day the lion

will lie down with the lamb. No more hunting,

no more suffering, and no more dying. The baby in the

manger didn’t come to see who was naughty or nice. He came to save

all

of

us.

  4. This is such a great post! The way you contrasted what Santa does with wat Jesus came to do…I really liked that! I,too am sometimes shocked at nature. How the same sweet cat that rubs against one’s leg and charms with its purrs and meow’s, can kill a small creature like a mouse or bird, or baby rabbit.

    I am really enjoying your blogs. Tank you for writing them.

  5. great shots of the Kingfisher.. re being shocked by nature, a couple of years ago I watched a bald eagle leave a post at Cowichan Bay and swoop down to catch a Mallard at low tide then carry it up to the post to kill it and strip it of its feathers. It was hard to watch.

    1. Oh that must have been a magnificent sight. I’ve watched an eagle attempt to snatch a duck off the ocean, but the duck dove under water. I couldn’t help but feel sorry for the duck. It stayed under for a long time. After several attempts the eagle gave up.

      1. I saw that as well at Quamichan Lake where the eagle gave up.. the poor Mallard at Cowichan Bay didn’t stand a chance. Years ago we were at Yellowstone and watched a coyote take an elk calf down in a creek but the mother came and drove the coyote away before he killed the calf. That was brutal but also exciting to watch the bravery of the mother defending her calf.

  6. Awesome post and beautiful message Wendy. Your photos are outstanding. I am always shocked at nature. I often see a squirrel kill a little bird at the feeder just to protect what he thinks is his. I don’t like that but it’s nature.

  14. Wendy nature can be cruel, these images are beautiful though. I remember my son getting angry one day when he watched a bird devour a beautiful butterfly and I could not help thinking the same thing. Nature is amazing and scary sometimes. Love your xmas tree message.

    1. Thank you, dear Kath. Yes, “Nature is amazing and scary sometimes.” I’ve heard birds cry out as one of their clan was devoured by a hawk. Beauty and the beast in one.
