Summer Seaside
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I squint at memories
burning rays of summer’s sun
reflecting off sand and water
the beach too hot for a barefoot run
~
~
Now our days have shortened
tea candles flicker and sway
shivering feebly at unwelcome drafts
no longer a seaside on a summer day
~
~
The same wind once welcomed
is now considered a wintry foe
shoulders ache as grasses bend
when easterly winds begin to blow
~
~
Closing my eyes I hear playful gulls
and yesterday’s holiday voices
I admire bleached bones of trees
tossed ashore when a storm rejoices
~
~
And so I realize the seasons
all must have their turn to play
for they’ve each painted a portion
of a seaside on a summer’s day
This lovely beach was such a treat to visit last summer.
~
~
It is not open to the public;
however, a friend, who has permission to visit it,
invited me along.
What bliss to take pictures
with someone else who also enjoys photography!
I hope you felt the summer breeze
as you visited along with me.
