Summer Seaside
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I squint at memories
burning rays of summer’s sun
reflecting off sand and water
the beach too hot for a barefoot run
~
~
Now our days have shortened
tea candles flicker and sway
shivering feebly at unwelcome drafts
no longer a seaside on a summer day
~
~
The same wind once welcomed
is now considered a wintry foe
shoulders ache as grasses bend
when easterly winds begin to blow
~
~
Closing my eyes I hear playful gulls
and yesterday’s holiday voices
I admire bleached bones of trees
tossed ashore when a storm rejoices
~
~
And so I realize the seasons
all must have their turn to play
for they’ve each painted a portion
of a seaside on a summer’s day
This lovely beach was such a treat to visit last summer.
~
~
It is not open to the public;
however, a friend, who has permission to visit it,
invited me along.
~
~
What bliss to take pictures
with someone else who also enjoys photography!
I hope you felt the summer breeze
as you visited along with me.
Loved this reminder that each part of the year has its part to play in the year. Kind of like life. Each incident is another stroke of the brush on the canvas of our lives.
Clarence, I am so glad that you caught the inference between the lines. 🙂
Yeah, something sinks in once in a while! 🙂 Still a wonderful poem.
Pure nature there .Lovely beach.
Thank you, Marylou! I loved being there.
Beautiful, Wendy. I love beaches untouched by commercialism. I have a favorite one like this in Florida. Just beach and dunes with no high rises!
Thank you, Sue! The only ‘highrises’ here were planes, gulls, and clouds. It is nice to know there are other places like this around the world.
🙂
Beautiful photography and poem, Wendy.
Thank you, Bill! I appreciate your visit. 🙂
Your images are superb, Wendy, and your words express a real gift of soul – so inspirational. Those shapes in the wood are marvellous.
Thank you, Don! I think the shapes of beach wood have as much fuel for imagination as cloud shapes do…
Yes, I felt the breeze…wonderful description for those of us not close to the ocean..
Thank you, Roberta! Yes, there is rarely a breeze free day on the coastline. It keeps the air fresh.
fabulous series Wendy…you certainly have a way with words…but then inspiration like this awesome!
Thank you, Heather! Pictures of places I love truly do inspire poetry for me.
“…bleached bones of trees…”
Well captured in words too 🙂
Thank you, Wendy.
Peace,
Eric
Thank you, Eric! Some beach logs remind me of dinosaur fossils…
Very good post and photos, Wendy. I loved what you said about all the seasons painting the landscape and you are so right! I’m also envious because I haven’t been able to make it to the beach yet this year and now time is running out. Thanks for sharing your time there with me. Blessings, Natalie
Thank you, Natalie! I hope that you enjoy an autumn visit to a beach soon. Winter visits can be beautiful, too, if you dress warmly. Blessings ~ Wendy
How lovely that you were able to visit a beach not open the public … by taking these wonderful photos you are sharing another little piece of heaven on earth which we would have not been able to see … thank you Wendy xxx
Thank you, Liana! My favorite holidays as a child were ones with sandy beaches. I’ve taken my children to beaches a lot over the years.
These are wonderful photos, Wendy–the one looks like a seal made from “something”! God bless you BIG–love, sis Caddo
Thank you, dear Caddo! I thought the sea sponge looked like a seal too. We have seals in our waters – but I have yet to get close enough to photograph one. 🙂
Sea sponge, ahh yes! They’re so amazing and lovely to watch.
Thank you for taking us to that special beach with you and helping us be thankful for each season we find ourselves in! God bless you!
Thank you, Debbie! We bless ourselves and God when we focus on the good in each season. It’s a wise choice to make.
Other side of the earth but I feel home. Beautiful!
Thank you, dear Leo! I am enjoying the pictures you post also.
Reminds me to enjoy the present and not judge, which we often do especially in life and about the seasons. A very contemplative poem.
I believe that the present will make more sense when we see the big picture. 🙂 Thank you for your visit and thoughtful comment.
I loved the visit to the beach and felt every bit of that hot summer sand under my feet ( I was hopping!) What beautiful driftwood.
Thank you! I had forgotten how intriguing the driftwood was until I reviewed the beach pictures in my file.
thank you so much for this treat…:-)
I smile at the remembrance of the baby elephant on your blog – so thank you also, Sriram! 🙂
🙂
Oh, you don’t think they would mind if I took a piece of driftwood and that coral for my garden do you?☺ Blessings, wendy.
Laurie, you make me smile! 🙂
I love your poem, Wendy! Very nice pictures, what a treat to visit that beach with your friend. 🙂 Hugs~
Thank you, Camilla! xo It continues to be sunny here this week – I hope you had a lovely weekend too.
Beautiful post, Wendy. You captured the essence of the seasons changing in a beach setting. I know, because I live directly next to one. 🙂
Thank you, Jennifer! I always enjoy your seaside pictures.
What heavenly shots!
Thank you; it was a heavenly place. 🙂
There’s nothing better than a beautiful beach, be it warm or cool.
I agree, Mary! Blessings on your week.
The verses may not correlate with the pictures every time but taken together they make for a glorious post.
Well done!
Shakti
Thank you, Shakti! I enjoy sharing nature’s gifts.
so sorry I’ve not been well enough to swallow and wallow in your journaling of emphatic wonders~ these are beautiful ! Doesn’t everything seem to sink into a quiet whiteness? xo your faithful friend ~Debbie
Yes, it does seem that “a quiet whiteness” wins out in the end…until the return of the King when bones will be resurrected incorruptible. Thank you, Debbie, for your always passionate and deep words.xo
Love your poetry and pictures! Thanks for taking us on this journey with you.
Thank you for joining the journey! Blessings.
I’m going to picture myself there, while outside the wind is howling and the rain is coming. 🙂
Brenda, it sounds cozy at your place. Keep warm and dry.
So far, so good. We watched Secret Garden, and now we plan to read Harry Potter aloud. 🙂
I love reading with my kids – good on you!
It’s special time, when one is sick and we take everything slow and do a lot of reading. 🙂
Perfect joining of beautiful photography and words. Thank you. I enjoyed it so very much.
Thank you! I hope to go there again.
What a fabulous treat to visit such a beautiful beach – enjoyed both your photos and words!
Thank you, Joanne!
I love summertime most of all
Spring is my favorite (May). 🙂
What a perfect post to see on this cold winter day!
Linda, our memories of warmer days can give us hope that they’ll return. Have a lovely weekend.
