In Our Loneliness
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In our loneliness
never far away
whether in a crowd or not
it comes and goes
throughout our day
~
~
In our solitude
a time we set aside
whether one’s busy or not
it’s needed to nourish
our spirit inside
~
~
In His whispering
a gentle call to us
whether we heed or not
it’s God’s voice
in our emptiness
~
~
In our fellowship
Divine communion with Him
washed in our unworthiness
a true heart’s yearning
filled within.
My soul,
wait patiently for God alone,
For my expectation
is from Him.
Psalm 62:5 NKJV
Love whispers in our silence to draw near to our Source.
God longs to have a personal relationship with his children.
Loneliness is our soul’s expression of this desire to be met.
Thank you for your visit, dear friends.
Happy Thanksgiving Weekend to my fellow Canadians!
~
This is one of my favorite post, dear Wendy … It’s soaked with His desire to be in fellowship with His children … “Loneliness is our soul’s expression of this desire to be met.” … you have given words to the groaning of my heart 🙂
Thank you, Heidi! This poem came about after a conversation my husband and I had about how having a loving spouse and a quiver full of blessings does not fill us – only God can.
wonderful photos and poem
Thank you! 🙂
Beautiful Wendy! You’ve captured autumn so sensitively. 🙂
Thank you! Taking pictures helps me appreciate and celebrate autumn’s beauty.
Great photo’s full of fall colors
Thank you! It is getting more colorful by the hour in our garden.
Wendy, love the poetry and photos! All of it is just flowing and beautiful! Thank you for sharing, Deborah
Thank you, Deborah, for your encouraging words!
You fortunate lady experiencing such a beautiful fall!
We’re enjoying the colors before the rain and fog take center stage. 🙂
Lovely inspirational poem, Wendy. To you and your family, a Happy Thanksgiving weekend. Best wishes. Iris.
Thank you, Iris! Blessings back to you and your loved ones.
Thank you for your visits and encouragement.
Beautiful words and beautiful images – do you thin loneliness can ever be a positive thing?
Yes, I think loneliness can be a positive thing; anger can be too. Either can be a call to action, to attention, or to caution etc. Loneliness can draw us to converse with our Maker; perhaps just to acknowledge, rest, and delight in his Presence. 🙂 When we react to loneliness with drugs, over shopping, or over eating – then we’ve missed out on a blessing.
I think you’re right though to respond in a positive way is often beyond our grasp…
True, and this is when we need to reach as far as we can and God will fill the gap. “Do our best and leave the rest.” I think we’re only called to do what we can and ask for strength to do more. We may need to stand on the shoulders of others who have been there – done that. Books and friends are potential mentors.
Last night I missed my daughter as she was away for the night… so I turned off my computer and wrote a belated letter to a lifelong friend. Loneliness can birth blessings for us to give, or it may be a time to just be still and breathe. What’s your favorite thing to do when you are lonely?
I am rarely alone but I sometimes feel lonely in the wee small hours when I can’t sleep (usually my two three year olds and my husband and perhaps a cat or two are sharing the bed but I can still feel alone). At those moments I tend to turn to my friends across the world and reach out online! I have made some wonderful friends via middle of the night chats across the oceans.
I enjoy that aspect of technology – a world of friends. 🙂 It really helps me to see how we are all related.
I was struck today by, “my expectation is from Him”–when I’ve put my expectations on people, it can go horribly awry; but when I keep them focused on Him, and His provisions–fulfillment is guaranteed. God bless you and your family, Sis–love, sis Caddo
I love your comment, Caddo! Relationships are healthier and more joyful when the burden of over dependence is avoided. I love my man and my kids – but it is my God who meets my inmost needs 🙂
It’s a hard and painful lesson to learn, but once we do, the relationship struggles are less arduous. And just so you know, I by no means have it all nailed down…. To add to the trickiness, it’s easy to go too far the other way–never depending on others, we can miss the blessings God brings through people. Keeps us praying for His direction!
Wise words, Caddo. Balance is the key. Fear tempts me to go it alone too often. “Perfect love casts out fear”. God is able to lead us to the still waters we need… which may include fellowship with someone over a cup of tea.
Yep, sounds good.
Wow, what a wealth of lovely photos and words. Great post, Wendy! May the Lord’s presence always fill your lonely times. Blessings, Natalie
Indeed, Natalie, only the Lord can fill us with overflowing joy. Friends and family can bless each other; however, only God’s river of peace never runs dry.
beautiful poetry and photos Wendy…:-)
Thank you, Sriram! I hope to collect more autumn photos this weekend.
The vast difference between feeling lonely and alone and the wonderful realization that we never truly are alone. Amazing words, thoughts, and gorgeous images!
Thank you for the lovely comment! I agree that we are not alone.
very beautiful, Wendy! Fall captured beautifully..
groetjes, Francina
Thank you, Francina! I am enjoying the colorful leaves.
Beautiful words and photo, Wendy. Happy Thanksgiving from this Canadian!
Thank you, Christy! I can smell dinner cooking as I type this… have a lovely weekend. 🙂
Another wonderful post!! Thank you!
Thank you, dear Skye! 🙂
Wonderful photos! I especially like the last image of the grasses.
Thank you! It looks ablaze when the sun is setting on it. 🙂
This makes one reflect on what is life in our silent moments and what is really important. Your answer truly rings true. Lovely work.
Thank you for your thoughtful and encouraging comment!
Beautiful pictures, Wendy, I love the colours of autumn!! 🙂
Thank you, Camilla! I love the hues of fall too.
its too good…and your poem….amazing..:)
Thank you, Joshi, for your visit and comment! 🙂
mst wlcm..:)
You know it but I must say it again love your poems and photos!
Thank you, dear Leo! I appreciate your encouragement so much. 🙂
Aren’t you ever stunned by your ethereal surroundings! Your writing is as striking ! Amazing ! Faithfully Debbie
Debbie, your kindness encourages me to continue carrying a camera in my back pocket and a pen in my palm. Yes, I get distracted continually when I am trying to garden; my dog thinks I’m beastly to ignore his pleas to pick him up when I am absorbed with photographing…(he takes his role as a lap dog and biscuit connoisseur very seriously). 🙂
Wendy, always spiritual and deeply uplifting. Yes, our Great Creator is so close – only a breath and a whisper away.
Mary, I was so blessed to get two outings in nature yesterday with family members…indeed I heard whispers that almost shouted through the gloriously painted trees. Thank you for your lovely blog posts and for your visits here.
Beautiful, Wendy. Many blessings!
Thank you, Ellen, for the haiku and poetry ‘lessons’ (& enjoyment) each time I visit your blogs. You’ve inspired me so much.
Beautifully written Poem, Wendy. And like always your photos complement your words to perfection. 🙂
Arindam, thank you for noticing I try to use pictures the same mood as the poetry. 🙂
The colors are amazing in these photos, and you capture their vibrance and detail skillfully! I am always glad to see and read what you’ve shared!
My soul is yearning to be alone with God. When my mind feels crowded and cluttered, I know it is that “whisper of love” that you wrote about that draws me to the source. He alone can satisfy!
Blessings to you, friend! –Alison
Alison, you are not alone with the need to get away from ‘crowded and cluttered’. Jesus himself would steal away from the crowds, to the hills, for quiet time with his Father.
My teenagers don’t wakeup early so I steal away upstairs…
Blessings upon your stealing away opportunities.
This is breathtaking in word and image– a beautiful prayer!
Thank you, Ellen! I was able to get out this latest weekend for more fall pictures…
Stunning words and images Wendy. Inspiring!
Thank you, Tim! I loved your watercolor picture.
Lovely colours, especially in all the different berries. The last photo could be my own garden reflected back at me 🙂
Thank you! I had moved this grass plant from it’s former spot, as I thought it needed more sun. It loves it.
Yes, they look glorious with the sun on them. Mine could be in a sunny place but I don’t have a spare one!
Beautiful Wendy …. believing that this will draw someone to the Saviour who has a ‘loneliness’ hole that only He can fill xx
Yes, this is my heart’s desire. Thank you!
Beautiful fall images! And it’s just what I believe too, that no matter how lonely we are, we are never really alone. He is always with us. Love the last picture best, with the wavy red grass. Just beautiful! And so inspiring.
Thank you! I derive so much hope and strength from the thought of His comforting Presence.
Your words and images are so beautiful. Words and beauty I needed for today: thank you for providing them!
Jill
Thank you, Jill! This poem came about because of a conversation my husband and I had about loneliness.
Blessings ~ Wendy
Beautiful photos and writing about loneliness. Thanks for visiting my blog and liking my post.
Thank you, also, for the return visit, Irina! 🙂 I appreciated how cheerful your blog is (& I love poetry!).
Beautiful pics. Beautiful poem. 🙂
Thank you! Creation inspires me – as do kind words. 🙂
Wonderful images and stunning colors !
Thank you!
The light play is beautiful in all of your images. I too like green color. I used it in very many paintings. However, all colors deserve to be implemented, reflected and admired. I never use black because black means there is no light.
Thank you, Inese! Green is definitely my favorite color. I admire your paintings.
Wonderful images! 🙂
Thank you, Craig! I am honored to have your approval.
