Down by the Riverside
*********************
When life’s pressures push my pulse
and thoughts run along a thousand roads
tis’ when I know I need some refuge
to breathe in peace that nature holds
~
I wander down by the riverside
to drink in delights that I may see
Earth soothes my turmoil deep inside
as I partake of serenity
~
But what of days I cannot go
to visit creation’s healing calm?
Upward I seek the Creator’s heart
whose artistry is both my joy and balm.

Today I am sharing with you the hike my oldest son and I took along Brown’s River on a hot day in August.
~
~
My son and I love how we feel when we are away from the noise and clutter of town.
~
~
We both like to take pictures; we did.
~
~
These are some of the ones that I took…
~
~
Parts of the riverbed were quite shallow.
~
~
Some sections looked like ancient carvings.
~
~
We went for a refreshing swim in our clothes,
while ignoring the suggestion of the sign.
~
~
The other hikers were swimming at the waterfall.
~
~
I prefer to photograph waterfalls than to swim in them.
~
~
It was nice to walk back cooled off from the August heat.
~
~
My son, who has younger eyes than I have, spotted another hiker enjoying late summer.
I borrowed this photo from my blog: http://naturephotopoems.wordpress.com
Check it out if you love micro poems on nature photos.
~
I hope that you have found this hike as refreshing as I did.

Creation has a lot to say about its Creator.

Incredible. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for your visit, Skye! 🙂
Lovely photos, Wendy. And those wonderful poetic words touched my heart. Bless you, my dear friend. ♥
Thank you for your kind words, Isabella Rose. It gives me great joy to touch hearts through poetry & pictures. xo
I love the sound of a brook. That last photo: “weasels his way….” cute 🙂
Thank you, Clarence! That weasel was very cooperative in modeling for us. 🙂
🙂
Your words really capture the beauty, wonderful.
Rivers are a respite… thank you. 🙂
Lovely, as always. Soothes my spirit.
Thank you, Linda! Creation does it so well. 🙂
As always- refreshing photos, peaceful thoughts! Thanks for sharing them!
I’m so glad that the pictures have refreshed more than just me. 🙂
What a beautiful place. You captured the (peaceful) feel of it.
Thank you! I chose the photos that stood out. It was a nice day.
What beauty! Looking at all the rocks, I am reminded of Luke 19:40; ” And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace , the stones would immediately cry out .” To praise Jesus is such a privilege! 😀 Shalom. Beth (ps: how cold was the water?)
Beth, creation truly does point to a Creator. 🙂 The water was just right; we stayed in longer than usual.
Lovely poem, post and position.
Thank you! 🙂 I had fun.
Lovely Wendy, just lovely…
Thank you, Julie! 🙂
Lovely poem and very beautiful photo’s of your hike
Thank you for joining the nature walk! 🙂
How can a noisy river be so peace-inducing 🙂 ? Flowing water, even in your wonderful photos, delights me. Just too many stories of rivers/lakes to tell to explain my feelings about them. Your photos and poem were very timely for me personally.
Peace
My daughter and I were in a garden, recently, that had a small pond and waterfall, and she exclaimed, “We need one of these in our garden!” I agree that flowing water is so soothing… to all ages. 🙂 Thank you for your visit.
A lovely post in every way!
Thank you so much, Ellen!
What a lovely hike.
Thank you, Patti! It was an oasis.
THANK you for sharing these … I so enjoyed walking with you 🙂 … God’s creation is marvelous … blessings, dear Wendy!
Heidi, I always enjoy your creation walk photos and poems too! Thank you, dear poet friend. 🙂
Beautiful poem. And your comment about ignoring the sign made me chuckle :).
Thank you! That sign was so unexpected in such a “pristine” environment. 🙂
Beautiful pictures! God does amazing work, doesn’t He?
Debbie
Indeed, Debbie, He most certainly does! 🙂
Thank you, Wendy, I needed that beautiful respite. (I’m glad you ignored the sign:-)
Thank you, Bill, for your encouraging comment and for making me smile! 🙂

Thank you, Joshi, for cheering me on! 🙂 I appreciate your comments. Now I will visit your blog to see what you’ve been photographing.
I’d trust you to take me anywhere [with bug spray] in comparison to where Obama is taking us! You’re awesome ! xo
Thank you for such a blessing with your words! I admire your poems, Deborah, immensely. xo
We’re blessed to live near two beautiful rivers and going riverside is one of our purest delights. Gorgeous photos and words, Wendy. Nothing soothes my soul like nature does and going on a photographic journey with a friend is also another pure delight. 🙂
Thank you! I, too, love going photographing with others. Each gets inspired by the other. Two sets of eyes cover much more ground and potential shots…
Love hiking by the water’s edge – we don’t get much of it here – in fact, none of it. Beautiful shots of nature – love especially that waterfall – we have one waterfall in Singapore – 100 feet tall, man made 🙁
Eric, even man made waterfalls make lovely music. Thank you for your visit! 🙂
SO many beautiful photos of Gods creation♥
He is THE Artist… in a class all of his own. 🙂 Thank you, Laurie!
Beautiful as always, Wendy. It lifts the heart.
Thank you, Mary! Your comment lifts my heart. 🙂
fantastic…Wendy. Thank you for sharing 🙂
sriram
Thank you, Sriram! 🙂
I meant to comment on this a couple days ago. I was reading somewhere that we meet God not just in prayer and study, but we meet Him in nature, art, music, poetry etc. Your photos remind me of that 🙂
Blessings

I love your comment! It blesses me to hear my children play their instruments; or to see my son’s art, and to view my daughter’s photography. I could not agree more. 🙂
Beautiful, Wendy. Simply beautiful. Both your photography and your words are sheer perfection.
Thank you, dear Sheri! 🙂
beautiful photos and area, Wendy,
groetjes, Francina
Thank you, Francina! 🙂 We like it here.
I can see why 🙂
What a beautiful, calming, cooling walk.
Thank you; it was a treat.
Another lovely post and great photos, Wendy. Blessings, Natalie
Thank you, Natalie! I look forward to visiting your new posts. 🙂
I’m glad you liked my post about roses. I pray all is well with you, Wendy. Blessings, Natalie
Natalie, it is interesting how I was walking around the neighborhood with my husband when you wrote this comment; because, I have a sore foot in recovery and this was my first real walk in two weeks. It was so nice to get out in the fresh evening air. I did have some pain towards the end of the walk – it was worth it!
Blessings dear friend ~ Wendy
Oh, Wendy, I’m so sorry you’ve been dealing with a sore foot. I do hope it is healing well and getting less and less sore. I do know how wonderful it is to be able to get back outside and breath in the fresh air. Ruach is the ancient word for air and it is the same word for the breath of God. That’s why it is so refreshing to be outside where His “breath” can fill us with His presence. Take care, my friend. Blessings, Natalie
All you have created here is beautiful! Thank you for your valued participation with my blog.
Thank you, also, for your visits here! 🙂 Blessings to you & your family.
Thanks so much GLL…..have a wonderful weekend!
Fantastic shots! 🙂
Thank you for your continued support of my blog!
Thank you! My son introduces me to some interesting parks.
