A Call to Prayer

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Secretly
silently
another little one perishes
not wanted by her mother
Voiceless
silent screams go unheard
Sleeping
stillness
Oh innocent ones who slumber
I want you to know
Someone
holds you in His heart
Awakening
accountability
as warriors rise in unison
giving the unborn a voice
proclaiming
that your cries have been heard
Respectfully
righteously
a battle cry is made
A war fought on bended knees
lovingly
while wombs remain
for now…
a free firing zone.
Wendy/2013
Sadly, humans tend to go to extremes.  I do not believe in keeping a woman whose life is in grave danger from access to a safe abortion; however, nor do I readily condone abortions or partial-birth abortions to be done for other reasons.  We must not abandon the rights of the unborn. Canada/North America has a plank in its eye when it points an accusatory finger at atrocities that have occurred elsewhere, while the blood drips from our own hands.  Millions of abortions have taken place since it was legalized: www.numbersofabortions.com .   Somehow I do not believe that they were all done in order to prevent the death of the mother or because the pregnancy was a result of rape (see statistics in above link).
There are atheists who are prolife too.  This is not a religious debate. It’s a debate over the rights of defenseless unborn human beings.  On youtube there is a 7 minute video titled: Atheists who oppose abortion.  It is awesome!  I respect the late Christopher Hitchens for his defense of the unborn.
Bernard Nathanson a former abortionist and now pro-life advocate speaks openly in easy to understand language about what a fetus undergoes in an actual abortion.  Here is a link to The Silent Scream on youtube.  Here you can see for yourself via ultrasound just what he is talking about.
“Jane Roe” from Roe v Wade gives us her real name in this link and she tells us that she is now pro-life.  I don’t know why but her gentle spirit and strong conviction about preserving life made me cry.  Bless her for her testimony.  I have never had an abortion, but since I had never been warned of its dangers I could easily have been in her shoes back in the 70’s.   Let us spread the truth seasoned heavily with grace.
Here is a link to a blogpost regarding partial birth abortion.  The following links are two previous abortion posts I have done. Bee-Dazzling Buzz! and Hands that Shed.
We’ll step over a slug on a walking trail – so should we not also speak up for a tiny human with eyes, limbs, and a heartbeat…?
My challenge for all those who believe in the power of prayer is that once a day you might say a short prayer for the protection of the unborn.  I don’t believe in violent or disrespectful protests; however, I do believe in a prayer answering Father!
And if you are able, you may want to donate to a pregnancy care center. Women with unplanned pregnancies need loving support in tangible ways. Women who have had abortions need our support and grace too.
Prayer Call Blessings ~ Wendy
PS –  This post is not intended to cause trauma or grief to those who have had an abortion.   It is a call to prayer.
The vintage lamb (pictured above) was given to my dad by his co-workers when I was born.  It had fresh flowers in it.  My next post will be back to my garden with some spring colors I’ve captured on camera.
  1. There are times when sadly abortion may be necessary, and I am pro-choice in this respect. It would be difficult to legislate for all scenarios. But children are not a throw away commodity. There are too many methods of birth control available to warrant abortion being seen as merely one of them and it seems too commonly to be used as such these days.
    1. Sue, I agree that there are times when abortion is necessary. And I also agree that it is also often misused. Once again we humans take things to extremes. Hopefully the downward trend of abortion use will continue as people allow themselves to be educated about the innocent ones also involved in the abortion equation.
      Thank you for your respectful and thoughtful comment!
    2. Very well said, Echo! I agree with Wendy, this is not a religious debate, but a human one. There are times when it’s necessary, but sadly most of them are not. Education is key.
    1. I admit that this is potentially blog suicide…;) But I have always been a trend bucker and not a boot licker so it’s only one more unpopular thing I’ve done in a long list of them. 🙂
      Thank you for reading and commenting. You are brave too!
  2. Your words are bold, yet there is a tenderness about them. Jesus loves all, from the unborn to those who have made difficult choices…
    This post makes me think of the miscarriage I had of twins at six weeks. Their hearts never did beat, but there was life and growth for even a short time!
    My prayer is for women to view themselves as daughters of a loving Father who wants good things for them and wants to care for every detail of life. I pray for more women to guard their purity and see sex as something sacred and a beautiful part of marriage. I pray for all people to view life as life, no matter how small! Hearts are hard and eyes are shut to God’s love, grace, and provision. I pray for more people to be available to give counsel to those who need it, with gentleness and courage. Yes, we must pray!!
    1. I echo your prayer! This post is a result of months of a simple daily prayer. Another blogger posted about abortion and it stirred a desire in me to commit to lifting up the unborn to our Father each evening before bed.This is a battle that must be fought lovingly in the spiritual realm first.
      I feel compassion for the women who have helped line the pockets of abortionists. Thankfully there are support websites for those suffering post-abortion trauma. It’s the people who have to count the ‘parts’ from the procedure to make sure it was completed that make me wonder? They too are not beyond the reach of His grace…
  3. This is indeed a subject that is heart-rending. One that is so emotional and divisive. Your post is well thought out and direct without meanness or being preachy. Well done, thank you.
    1. I am glad to hear that it did not come across as preachy. My intent is to encourage the free flow of information on this topic and prayers for the unborn. Silence is not always golden…
      Blessings dear friend ~ Wendy 🙂
  4. Powerful thoughts and words, indeed! May God give us all the grace to speak His truth in love, and to help those who have had abortions to know His forgiveness. ~ Marsha
    1. The Pregnancy Care Center in our community offers post abortion counseling. I know that they have encouraged a woman to consider all her options before abortion only to have her come in for post abortion counseling. Grace is a very necessary ingredient in this realm. There are a lot of hurting women out there who need a shoulder to cry on.
  5. The blood of the innocent cries out from the very ground itself… a very timely call to prayer. I appreciated your alert at the beginning of this post – a sensitive and caring way to let readers know what’s coming. While I don’t have this type of trauma, I am all too familiar with other aspects – and have often been caught unawares as I scroll through posts. and my eyes and heart are assaulted by something that I would not have chosen to read. Blessings on your gentle heart, Wendy!
    1. Thank you, Melody! My dear husband accidentally came across some graphics regarding partial birth abortion and he had to get up and walk around as he was so upset and enraged by it. I have not gone to check what he saw. He just wanted to read about it – not see it!
      CBC radio now offers a warning to sensitive listeners before reporting a gruesome news report. I heed their warning as I was deeply upset by one I heard before they began doing this.
  6. When I think of the picture we’re given in Matthew 19:14… Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” …I cannot help but think of how God’s heart must grieve over each little life that’s taken in the name of “the woman’s choice.” How little we value what He values most. I join you in praying. I also pray for revival in the body of Christ. I believe change begins there.
    1. Daisy, we need to pray that the unborn are not left out of the choices that are made. Harm reduction at the expense of other human lives is simply multiplying the pain. Women often suffer great trauma and sometimes lasting physical consequences from abortions. There are really two victims ( more if other relatives are in the know) for each abortion.
      You are so right that revival needs to start in the body of Christ. The statistics for church health is not looking too good these days. ‘If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves…and pray… ‘
  7. Thank you so much, Wendy. I’m crying and praying too. God spoke to me about abortion during the Sandy Hook school shooting of such young ones. We were all so horrified and rightly so . ..and He reminded me of how many little ones lose their lives each day. God bless you for the tenderness and grace He gives you to minister to us in ways like this.
    1. Debbie, I had similar thoughts during that sad sad time. Once while listening to a program on the radio about a community effort to help migrating frogs safely cross a busy highway I coveted those committed peoples efforts to help with the unborn also.
      I love nature and even step over (not on) slugs in my garden – unless they are in the greenhouse! Then they get evicted. Yes, we should care for the animals and yes we should care about the most vulnerable in our society too.
  8. What a powerful, moving post, my beloved sister. You spoke the truth with love and compassion, and I agree, we must respond with love and with prayer to this tragedy that takes place daily. May God bless you for obeying His Spirit and defending those who are helpless to defend themselves.
    Love always,
    Cheryl
    1. Thank you for your support, Cheryl! I admit that my heart pounded pretty hard when I pushed the publish button for this post. ‘Better is one day in His house than thousands elsewhere.’ is what I say to myself when I do what I know is difficult but needed. Hugs!
      Blessings dear friend ~ Wendy xo
      1. Blessings to you too, Wendy. Prophetic words and warnings are almost always difficult, but so very necessary, and if we, the children of the Most High God don’t share those words, who else can warn people to turn from their sin?
        I love you friend,
        Cheryl
        1. I love you, too, Sis! Turning away from sin is a daily exercise for me. There is no wrong too trivial or too great that He cannot wipe away permanently. I’m just a fellow beggar hoping to point the way to where I got the Bread! 🙂
  9. Hello Wendy-Lee! You might have read in my blog that I had an abortion as a result of being raped. It’s such a horrible thing to go through and then to end up pregnant as a result! Horrific! Hugs Paula xxxxxxxx
    1. Yes, dear Paula, I thought of you and almost did not post this. Hugs! But I decided to post a warning on the top instead. Sadly there are women who have had abortions for reasons other than their safety or rape, and they have suffered great trauma and grief as a result of the abortion.
      I was amazed at all the information on the internet about this. A woman would need Supernatural help to carry a baby to term that was conceived through rape. I have heard an interview with such a lady and it was only by the grace of God that her story had a happy ending.
      Blessings dear friend ~ Wendy xo
        1. Paula, there is no way I would have even considered it before I knew the Lord. If I had got pregnant in my youth, for any reason, I probably would have aborted it since I had not been taught anything about other options. They never said anything about the fetus other than ‘product of conception’. In high-school guidance class they encouraged abortion ( 1978). My parents never talked about life issues. I think education about such serious topics should be freely discussed in families. xo
    1. Thank you for helping show that pro-life does not have to be a brick-wall alternative to pro-choice. There are times when an abortion may be necessary and even critical to a woman’s survival.
      Blessings dear friend ~ Wendy xo
  10. I saw a commercial on EWTN were “Jane Roe” stated her pro-life stance. I commend her for having the courage to admit she had a change of heart. Many women need to fully be educated on the internal, emotional and spiritual damage abortion causes before they agree to one.
    1. Thank you, Jade! I agree that women need to be more informed on both the risks to themselves physically and emotionally; alternatives to abortion; and the physiology of the unborn child and the actual procedures affect on the last moments of its life…
      Blessings dear friend ~ Wendy xo
    1. Thank you, Heidi! If gifted means that I love to write, then I thank Him for giving me this desire/gift. And since I admire your writing, this is an honor to receive praise from you. 🙂
      Blessings dear friend ~ Wendy xo
    1. Thank you, Cheryl, for helping spread the truth about the vulnerable unborn in our society. They need our love, respect, and help!
      Blessings dear friend ~ Wendy xo
  11. Thoughtful, important post, Wendy. In high school, I had a friend whose older sister was raped. The deacons of her church talked her into having the baby and giving it up for adoption. Once she did, the baby and adoptive mother (a member of the church) were surrounded by love. The girl was forgotten. I don’t know where she went after that.
    A baby’s life was saved, and the girl’s life and hopes and dreams could have been saved, too. My favorite pro-life bumper sticker is this: Love them BOTH
    1. Marylin, your comment is so powerful! It is not love to just tell someone what to do and not help them in doing it or help them after as they grapple with the aftermath of whatever choice they made. How sad when only one is loved… I think that bumper sticker is awesome!
      Blessings dear friend ~ Wendy xo
