This poem beautifully describes an encounter with a deer in the wild. It brings back memories of when we lived in the woods… Enjoy!

    1. Thanks, Paula! My husband and I think this fellow’s poetry is great. Sometimes I miss living in the woods…until I remember the bears and cougars that I saw!

        1. I took video footage of a mom and cubs by our chicken house at our old place.

My boys gave themselves a bad scare chasing a bear only to discover she had a cub with her. When they noticed the cub up in the tree with her they took off for the house. I guess they had to learn the hard way…she started coming down the tree after them but our large dog stalled her. Yikes! I guess all the horror stories I told did not work – they had to taste it for themselves.

  1. Thank you for sharing this today, Wendy! You’re right . ..seeing deer on our walks in the woods is wonderful . ..seeing bear and cougars a little more concerning! 🙂 God bless you as you love and appreciate all He brings to you!

    1. Debbie, we just went for an evening town walk and the only critter we saw was our cat greeting us as we arrived home. Often we see deer in our neighbors’ gardens, but they don’t act like country deer. I don’t miss looking over my shoulder for the other big critters…

  2. Wendy a short funny story to share with you. When I was 10 years old…one of my chores was taking out the trash all the way back in the woods and burn it. Yikes..nowadays unheard of right? Anyhoo, I go to put the trash in and look down in the barrel and there was a mama racoon giving birth!!! I started screaming So loud as I ran all the way back up to the house. My mom said when she saw me…What have you seen a ghost? LOL! Have a great evening. Blessings.

    1. Laurie, that is hilarious! The raccoon probably thought you’d brought her a snack like all good midwives do. 😉 My midwife gave me popsicles…

  3. One of the things I enjoy about blogging is finding a joy in poetry, thank you for sharing this it expresses the simple of beauty of nature and reminds me of when I drove by our creek and saw a deer enjoying his morning water.

    1. Thank you for stopping by. I like the vision I get as I imagine a deer drinking from a creek. My mom likes to feed the deer that live on the small island she lives on. They have no predators there, and the deer always look so relaxed.
