Melancholy Leaves

Temporary chill
relinquishing to springtime –
melancholy leaves.

There is beauty to be found even in a melancholy day of winter. The Lord and my friends help shine rays of light and love into my dark days. The following Haiku was inspired by my daughter’s piano playing and my thankful thoughts about two special long distance phone calls I enjoyed, recently, with close friends of many years…

PS – What is your favorite type of encouragement to give or receive?
One of the ways I’ve been encouraged is by nominations other bloggers have given me. Although I do not do awards anymore, I am deeply honored by those friends of mine who have thought of me as they post their awards. I love to return the favor by posting links to their blogs so my friends can give them each of these blogs, I follow, a visit. I’ve listed these in the order of when I was nominated. Enjoy!

Beautiful post…
Thank you. I love frosty leaves!
Blessings dear friend ~ Wendy 🙂
It’s not the frost on the leaf that tells the whole story of a plant, but the root that thrives beneath the ice.
You are absolutely correct! It’s a about substance rather than surface…
Blessings dear friend ~ Wendy 🙂
Hey lovely lady! How have you being? It’s midnight just about to shut down when your name appeared!! Night night…Wendy-Lee xxxxx
Hi Paula,
Have a cozy sleep! I am so happy to see that we have sunshine today!! 🙂 Hugs!

Excellent! Night! xx
The macro image is beautiful and such detail. Great job wendy!
Blessings, Laurie
Thank you, Laurie! Macro photography is my favorite.

I don’t even own a macro lens! Can you believe that? Sigh…it is on my wishpot. Have you ever heard of this?
Laurie, I can totally relate. I am using an Olympus FE-20 that has a built in auto macro setting. When we are done with music lessons and dental bills then I would LOVE to upgrade. In the meantime I am enjoying the freedom of a tiny camera I can just slip into my pocket when I am on the go… I have surprised people with what I can do with such a simple camera. Where there’s a will…
PS – What’s a wishpot? 🙂
It is a website for loved ones to use for your birthdays, christmas etc. So you put your wishes on here and they go look and can shop right from there. Pretty fantastic. I have all my photography wants on this☺
Have a great evening.

The frost is beautiful, like natural jewels on a green beauty! I also loved that you received so much encouragement from your phone calls. Catching up with dear friends is indeed a gift–and it has been too long for some of my friends and I–I hope I get to talk with them soon. You asked for readers to share their favorite form of encouragement…for me, I love to give and receive letters. That way, the reader can enjoy them over and over, for years to come! And, it is even better when that encouragement points me closer to God. Having kindred spirits around us is priceless. Please pray, if you would, for wisdom for our family as we have some important decisions to make in the weeks to come regarding V’s career. I praise God that our trust is in Him, and that we know He will continue to lead us and provide for us, as He always has! Uncertainty is always a tricky thing for my heart and mind, but it is certainly driving me to more and more prayer! Blessings to you today. –Alison
Alison, I agree that uncertainty is a driving force for prayer. I’m glad that you turn to the One who never changes during times of decision making.
Letters are wonderful! I love to read them with a cup of tea after I’ve tidied up the kitchen. They tend to arrive just when you need them too…
I will pray for your family to make the decision according to His perfect will and for peace. Life is bumpy! We are potentially in the midst of change also and, like you, we are driven to prayer. Hugs!

Thank you Pj!

What a banquet you’ve given us today, Wendy!! I love everything, will have to come back for seconds! God bless you today, so abundantly–love, sis Caddo
Thank you, sweet Caddo! I look forward to visiting you later after taxi-mama & kitchen duty! 😉 Hugs!

I loved the first poem, about melancholy paired with the last one, an encouraging phone call! My favorite type of encouragement to give, is probably hand written notes and letters. God bless you!
I love receiving and giving those too, Debbie! They are hard to part with – hence shoe boxes come in mighty handy…;)

Nice balance – melancholy, and comfort! Keep those haiku coming!
I’m hooked on haiku
there is no turning back now –
since words flow forward.
Blessings Melody ~ Wendy 😉 Hugs!
Ha ha! You’ll be counting syllables in mid-conversation, next! 🙂
Our family was having fun talking with haiku, at the dinner table, the other night…we laughed so hard! Crazy parents make crazy kids…
And oddly enough, well-adjusted and happy ones, too! 🙂 Families that laugh together – have good core strength??
True – and perhaps when we’ve cried together, it is the tie that binds?
Probably all of the things that can link us will make that tie stronger, right? (Even the crazies…) 😉 I always love seeing or hearing about families having fun together – it helps to offset some of the ‘yuck’ in the world, doesn’t it?
Yes, I agree! Hope should be fostered in homes and then shine out its windows as a lighthouse for those in danger of a shipwreck. Oh good grief…now I’ll be writing a poem in bed again…
Goodnight dear friend – I’m off to take the dog out & hug some teenagers!
So beautiful! I really like how you described your inspiration for the second Haiku. The description painted a vivid scene where the haiku was able to waltz right in.
My favorite type of encouragement is to give. The amazing thing is that when I encourage others God puts words and lessons in my mouth where I myself am blessed and lifted up.
I like how you end up encouraged as well as the person you encouraged…how like God to allow love to boomerang back! I am blessed by your blog as you give to us through it… Hugs!

Amazing shots!!!
Thank you, Rexlin! They grow in my garden where I can take my time to capture them in focus.
