Birds of a feather

gathered together

on a rock

in the middle

of a bay

Gossiping not

but sharing their thoughts

of narrow escapes

along the way

Gathering courage

to be airborne

not discouraged

though the weather

may hinder their flight

Growing in wisdom

from other’s decisions

they’re strengthened

to stick to the fight

Grieving for other

lost sisters and brothers

who didn’t

heed others’ advice

Giving this ponder

for mulling and wonder

each plans to

invest its own life.

I seem to be nestled into a bird theme lately… they are my flowers until our snowdrops bloom!  These shore birds were sitting on this rock for most of the time we were visiting the Fanny Bay beach that afternoon.

  2. I do often wonder what the birds are talking about among themselves. If this is what they’re saying, then they are indeed the noble creatures I’ve always believed them to be.

    1. I agree, they do seem noble. I love to watch them! You sure captured nice shots of a bald eagle. My husband says that: “Only a poet would ascribe words to a beast.” 😉

    1. Debbie, what a great idea to pray that one! Hugs! I can always use more help with my words… I like to pray the prayer in Ephesians that Paul did. The kids and I memorized it and it is so faith boosting – plus I love how it ends. ” now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine according to his power that is at work within us…” May we allow him full reign in 2013!

  4. I am grateful for every “bird on a rock” in my life. Encouraging words can be rare, and they are so refreshing when they come. I think also of teaching my young children how to speak up for themselves while still being kind–mostly with each other. Our words are so powerful, and I pray that I use mine to build up those around me! I am glad God is using you to be encouraging.

    I have been in extreme mommy mode having my dear son off from school till next Tuesday! It has been fun, and each day I’ve remembered how thankful I am to be able to be home with them.

    1. Good on you, Alison, for teaching them to speak up for themselves in an appropriate manner. We teach people how to treat us and self love is not a bad thing. It’s the extremes of either self hate or self worship that cause problems. I am so glad, also, to have been at home with our children. It is more and more rare for parents to feel they can have this time at home. It has been worth the sacrifice of driving an older vehicle etc. You can never get these years back. While they are really little they value time with us more than stuff. They spell love with “t i m e”. Enjoy mommy mode!
