Evening snow deluge
tucks in homes
for the night
and silent winter
drifts off to sleep
dreaming of angels
and Light
Morning snow welcomes
and brightens
a December day
while winter’s children
build snowmen
round and round
they play!

It’s official – we finally got our first real snowfall for this season! I am so glad that I took the night shots: By morning the snow was already melting and had fallen off most of the branches… This poem is in memory of my teenagers when they were little. They rarely build snowmen anymore.

How magical! I am jealous (hopefully not sinfully so) because we have not had a snowfall yet. While it is colder in S. Ontario than last year it warms up whenever precipitation comes and we have had rain, rain rain, so we have mud, mud, mud. But, everything is still green; the winter browns haven’t entered the tapestry yet.
It sounds like you are getting our normal weather… Today it is clear and cold ( icy roads in the shade) and I wouldn’t be surprised if it snows more. I love how it looks, but it is a bit stressful driving in it. I’m glad you are getting a break from winter brown. My hometown always got brown in the winter. Green is nice! 🙂

The birds are appreciating the bare soil under our large trees. Several of our neighbors have feeders for them – so they’re happy!

Oh Wendy! These shots make me whisper–wow! We got our first flurries too, about 1:30 am, as I was going to bed. No accumulation–just a little on the cars–mostly it just creates more traffic issues, for now…As I have to walk to errands, I don’t like winter much. God bless your day–love, sis Caddo
Thank you, Caddo! I agree it is not fun to do errands in the snow. I drove extra slow to take my son for an x-ray today – I figured there was no point adding more reasons to be at the hospital. 😉 He has a cough that has been hanging on for weeks.

So many memories of nighttime snows…kneeling on our living room sofa, looking out the front window, watching the snow fall, waiting for my dad to come home, wondering if he would slide down our street or make it safely into the driveway. Then, listening early to the radio the next morning to see if school would be delayed or cancelled. The snow is so beautiful as it covers each branch, twig, and needle. I had some memories brought to mind this morning as my L’s school celebrated the end of another quarter with a trip to a local indoor ice-skating rink. My little A was bundled up and looking like a pink marshmallow. The cold was a fun treat as we continue to have 80 degree days!

I sure took snow for granted when I was a child. Here on Vancouver Island it doesn’t snow much except up in the hills… As an adult who does not like driving in it, I don’t mind the scarcity of it; but it is nice to have some – briefly! Our old country home was more north and closer to the mountains so our kid have played a lot in snow when they were young.
I hope you take a picture of your pink marshmallow! My daughter had a purple snowsuit. I’d forgotten about it. Time flies, so memorize these moments…

Yes, the snow fairy finally arrived here! It’s bright in our neighborhood now… and slippery. I made sure I was not in a hurry when driving today. I will post more this week since I have had time to write poems during my Taxi Mama moments… 😉

My 17 year-old takes after me and is reluctant to drive yet. I think professional lessons next spring are a good idea… 😉 It took me until I was 18 to get interested in driving.
