The Golden Years
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Are we looking ahead
to the golden years?
What are they
anyway?
Are they leisure days
for soaking up
the suns rays?
Is it when we take the time
to notice the little things?
Or when we start a big project
that makes our hearts sing?
Whatever they are
Whenever they be
I want to be doing
these things already
Time has a way
of slipping out
from under us
And it seems like
we end up
going backwards
when we’re rushed
I do want to win…
I don’t want to be caught
with coins
still buried
not invested
When the real golden years begin
I want to walk
those golden streets
without bearing shame
that I hid all my talent
waiting for the right
moment
in the game
It’s not a golden trophy
that makes me want to run
It’s words
from my Master
that tell me
Well done!
Now those will be
The Golden Years!
This was the last of our Japanese Maples to lose all of its leaves. It is also the most golden.
“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’…” Matthew 25:21
Dear Wendy, Wonderful poem and photos! Blessings, Ellen
Thank you, Ellen! I cherish your visits!
Thank you, Wendy. You speak so eloquently – putting into words those things I feel in my heart. Bless you.
Lizzie, thank you for such a generous compliment! I truly love to write.
Wonderful poem, Wendy! And nice pictures, I love Japanese maple leaves!!
Thank you, Calee! Those lovely leaves are a carpet underneath the tree, now. They make a cozy blanket for the earth.
Lovely poem…and beautiful accompanying photos…a great post.
Thank you, Kris! The tree is bare now and often has little birds on it, instead of leaves…
Love the message of this poem.
Thank you, Gracie!
Beautiful pictures, and thank you for the reminder to use the time we have, instead of waiting until another stage of life…I’ve been thinking more lately about what I will do once little A. starts school. I pray that I may be found faithful, a good steward of what I have and what I can do! (All the rest, prayers, and blankets did me a world of good–many fewer tissues today!)
I am glad that you are feeling better. Today my doctor’s nurse cleaned out my plugged ears ( The doctor noticed they were at my impromptu checkup last week…) and what a difference! I did not realize how much I was not hearing. My daughter is so glad that she can talk quieter to me again. Remember, Alison, that motherhood is the most important job there is. Pat yourself on the back that your kids know that you love them in word and in deed. Not all children feel loved.
Blessings ~ Wendy
Thank you for that reminder…I treasure this time in my kids’ lives and count it a great privilege to watch and guide them in growing up! I pray that no matter what happens in their lives, that they know how much we as parents love them (and God, too)!
Wonderful, Wendy!! The only time we have is now, and we can choose to make it golden–I learned this rather late, but with the Redeemer God, it’s never “too late”. God bless you and your family–love, sis Caddo
Caddo, you are so correct – as long as we’re still breathing it is not too late! Remember the parable of how the master paid the same wages to all the workers? Grace, grace, God’s grace…
Blessings to you dear friend ~ Wendy
I like your words and photos, wendy and I’am asking now myself what are my golden years.
Thank you, Susanne! I am asking myself and God – what is my next step? Meantime I’ll just do what is before me…
Blessings ~ Wendy
Hi Wendy,
Beautiful pictures as always… you are so right about the golden years… they should be a time to enjoy the beauty of nature and use the time we have for the Lord’s glory and honor. Then it will be just as you say…. when we stand before Him we will hear Him say “Well done”. What a blessing that would be. Lord bless you.
Thank you, Pastor Rob! To love God and to glorify him is a full life. Seeking money and the favor of man is an empty one.
Such a lovely poem, Wendy! Beautiful pictures!! I really enjoyed this post. I always look forward to reading your blog. 🙂
Thank you, Daisy! My favorite blogs to read tend to include pictures and/or poetry. I enjoy your photography and posts, too!
“Leave” it to you to pen another beautiful poem, laced with wisdom, sprinkled with humor, woven with love. You’re a wonderful poet.
You’re a wonderful husband, and I admire your desire to always do your best in life. (Nice pun! ) 😉 xoxo
Love the pictures! My husbands 21 years older than me and is at retirement age, but chooses not to retire yet! I tell him he should enjoy his money now why he’s still healthy.
His sister died 2 years ago 44 from cancer.A friend died a year ago from sleep apnea 66.You never know when your times up! You may not live to see those golden years? so when they finally come! I think people should embrace them! Chow Wendy!! …..Paula x
Is your husband interested in working a bit less and going on longer breaks? It is hard for some people to stop work completely. I think we’re meant to be doing service of some kind even when we are over 65. Maybe, having you by his side makes him feel too young to slow down 😉 – that was a compliment!
Blessings to you, Paula ~ Wendy xo
Hahaha! He has his own business with another guy. The partner spends 1 month in Phuket and 1 month in Australia at work. It’s really just my husband doesn’t know how to walk away. Even when we go on holidays he never wants to go for long. He played golf but since having his knee reconstruction hasn’t being playing as often.
We have a country property where my son lives and I’m hoping maybe sometime next year he will spend at least 3 or 4 days a week there! *fingers crossed* xx
I’ll cross my toes for you so I can still type… 😉
I love how you ended this beautiful poem with the gorgeous golden pics! You have such a heart for Him, always! God bless you as He tells you ‘well done’ even today!
Thank you, Debbie! I can’t help myself because of all that He has done for me… for us!
