Portrait of a Poet
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A picture is worth
a thousand words
A poet harvests
a portion with ink
First penned on heart
Spoken in solitude
Written by hand
with whispering words
First reading
Second reading
Will it do?
Scribe
Scribble
Scrap
How many unread stories
are crumpled
and thrown
upon the hearth?
Are poems unknowingly
reincarnations
of some other work?
After all…
There is nothing new under the sun.
So the poet
sticks to the Truth
It’s worth repeating
over and over
again
For we
like children
learn through repetition.
I thought of the delicate petals and this is what I read. I’ll leave the other 900 words for another time…
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6
Oooh, I just LOVE this, Wendy–want to read it again, and again!! God bless you and your family today–love, sis Caddo
Thank you, Caddo! I found this a natural to write…
Blessings to you dear friend ~ Wendy xo
Beautiful, Wendy, you’ve gone deep into the mind of the writer, I especially love this line, ”First penned on heart, spoken in solitude written by hand,” what better way to describe a poet/writer. I love this!
Thank you! I drive my family crazy if I’m writing on my laptop while they are in the room, because I whisper to myself as I write… Do you whisper while you write?
Blessings ~ Wendy
I pace and whisper! haha! I’m thankful my family hasn’t had me committed yet! This was wonderful, Wendy, and the scripture with it! Thank you and God bless you!
“I pace and whisper!” sounds lovely like poetry… I love your poems so don’t change a thing.
Thank you, Debbie!
Thank you for visiting my blog, http://www.mainwriters.com. I wanted to come by and check out your blog too. What I discovered was a beautiful blog that explores the beauty of creation. I enjoyed your poetry. Thanks for your beautiful words and pictures.
I found out about yours on the Donkey Whisperer Farm blog. Thanks for returning the visit.
I was struck first by the beauty of this flower…what kind is it? I was then struck by the words. I love the sudden inspirations that come, and the words appear effortlessly and beautifully. Great poem, and I would love to read it again and again! This night finds me with a cold…more reading than writing for now!
Thank you! The flower is a columbine or aquilegia. I have other colors too. It is one of my favorites. There is a blue one on the previous post. I hope your cold gets better soon. Take it easy.
Blessings ~ Wendy
What a lovely columbine – such unusual colours. And yes – I wonder how many words and scenes are scrapped, when all are a part of living? Profound, this…
Thank you, Melody! Perhaps some poems are just for the writer’s benefit. A healing balm of sorts.
Blessings ~ Wendy
What an amazing flower!…………Paula x
Thank you! It is a favorite of mine.
Thank you, Paula! I am honored! I’m thinking of working on an award post next month as I am behind. It will be fun to encourage others.
Blessings ~ Wendy
Excellent idea! hope your days going well? xx
Beautiful. I think all of us can relate to the “scribe, scribble, scrap” part…I guess we’ve all written something we either thought not good enough or too personal to share, so…we crumple up the page and proceed to try again.
I sure regret throwing out my poetry from my childhood. But I have it all from the last 30 years anyways… You are so right about some being too personal to post. But they are good to write for our own healing or encouragement. Wow, just as I said that a few lines from an old poem written about my family during my childhood came to mind ( one I had tossed). It reminds me that I really cared…
I love columbine!!! One of the flora I miss from Midwestern gardens.
They are not finicky flowers. Columbine will even naturalize under deciduous trees.
Blessings ~ Wendy
I don’t know how you do it! How can you write so many fantastic poems EVERY DAY?? I’m so impressed! Love this one, and the pictures too 🙂
Thanks Calee! I wrote this one while waiting for my son who was in his guitar lesson. In the van there are no interruptions like at home…;) I wrote 3 during his lesson. I don’t always have the time, so I write when I can and really enjoy doing it.
The delicate petals, fragile in their beauty, strong in their testimony of the great Creator and He dwells within us allowing us to recreate in words and picture what was already in place. God bless.
Amen, Gracie! 🙂
Gorgeous! and wonderful poetry. I can see why this is a favorite columbine for you. The blossom is exquisite and you photographed it so well. I had a soft pink one year but haven’t seen it again. Is this in your yard? Maybe we could exchange some columbine seeds through the mail after the next season goes to seed. That’d be fun. 🙂
Thank you, Sheri! Yes, this one is in our back garden and has come up faithfully for several years. I will try to save some seeds for you. I have two different blue ones and a reddy/orange one as well. It would be fun to trade. 🙂
Blessings dear gardening friend ~ Wendy xo
I’ll remind you when that time of year comes. First, we will get to enjoy the blossoms again. 🙂
