The Arbutus Tree
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Majestic
Warrior like limbs
Solid and strong
Yet smooth
as skin
Burning in sun
flakes fall
paper-thin
as summer snow
uniquely curled
and small
In spring
you loosen leafy shawl
as if to taunt the trees
that lost their’s
in fall
When winter wages war
and deciduous trees
parade bare
you flaunt
your
waxy emerald coat
as if you hadn’t
a care!
I love everything about our Arbutus tree. It’s refusal to fit in with the crowd reminds me of Someone I dearly love. He was about his Father’s business, and the establishment was largely not impressed!
Majestic is the word! I love these pictures, Wendy! What a nice tree. 🙂
Thank you, Calee! These trees are all over our island and are protected.
The photos are amazing. Nature allowed us to see real beauty for free.
Thank you, John! I am grateful that some things in life are still free. 🙂 We are fortunate to live in countries that value parks, too.
I love this bit–“In spring/you loosen leafy shawl/as if to taunt the trees.” Great work!
Thank you! I can really relate to this tree, as my life is so out of schedule compared to my friends. They had their children when they were younger and have empty nests, now. Our nest is full, and these teens are helping keep us young! 🙂 It worked out well for us.
Wendy, this one has me just a bit weepy-eyed for some reason–I love it!! God bless you big–love, Caddo
Do you think it may be because we poets tend to think outside the box – like this tree and Jesus? I can really relate to this tree…
Blessings ~ Wendy xo
This tree is amazing! And so is how you related it to Jesus! He is just everywhere and you are quick to see Him and give Him praise! God bless you and thank you!
It’s cool to remember that Jesus was the Co-Creator. So it makes sense that his fingerprints are there, too. I often forget that.
Blessings ~ Wendy
I absolutely love your tree – I have never seen or heard of this one before. And how cool to compare this to Jesus? WOW!
I’ve seen much nicer ones more further south on the island. They are not lacking for character!
Great furniture wood:>
Forever the tease! I know that you love our tree, too…
Hugs ~ Wendy
PS – I might need to “borrow” your sunrise photo, as the weather is not cooperating and I have a poem all ready for one…
Hi Wendy! *waving! hope you had a great weekend? your so good with words! …Paula x
Thank you. We are all sick – but cozy! It’s just a flu… so we should be fine shortly. I’m glad that I can’t pass it on through the blog! 🙂
Hi Wendy, missing seeing you all. Each one of us mentioned today that we hadn’t seen your family for a bit. Hope you ALL feel better soon! Thanks for the wonderful words and images. I love the Arbutus trees as well… 🙂 Hugs, Dee
Hi Dee! We are battling the flu bug. It is tricky keeping the kid’s spirits up when they have all had to miss so much this week… And would you believe that Grayson had to get 7 stitches in his hand on top of it all? ( picking up a broken juice jug off the floor…) I heard him playing his guitar today… so things are looking up! And Galen was on his drums! 🙂 Kara is suffering the most right now. The parents just feel dragged out. Maybe this means we’ll be home-free from sickness at Christmas? Your family has been through it, too, already?
Blessings ~ Wendy
Oh, I hope Kara feels better soon! It was a NASTY flu. We all had it here too, but I think I was the worst. I had such a bad fever and mine lasted three weeks. I finally got to the clinic for my flu shot but it might be in vain. We are hoping the same as you…maybe we’ll be free from the flu bug at Christmas. Hang in there! 🙂 Looking forward to seeing you soon! Blessings, Dee
Beautiful poem. You captured the essence well – and the emerald trunk – I’ll need to look for this tree – Have never heard of it? Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! It is my favorite of all our trees.
Thank you for the trackback!
