Everlasting Beauty
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Magnificent
magnolia
all year-long
your loveliness
blooms
In springtime
your flowers
overwhelm me
with a canopy
of petals
and perfume
Soon blossoms
flutter
as feathers
to earth
leaving behind
an emerald cape
accentuating
your girth
By mid-summer
day
your provision
of shade
shelters birds
and children
at play
Your cloak
turning
golden
in late autumn
reflects
the brilliance
of a sinking
sun
Until even
your leaves
fall to earth
telling me
this season
too…
is done
Yet
still
you’re richly
robed
as spring buds
begin
to fill
Fuzzy
and swollen
with potential
expanding
all winter
till spring
when your mantle
you’ll spill!
Everlasting Blessings ~ Wendy
This magnolia tree was planted, many years ago, by the previous owner of our place. She said that her children loved to play under it. It is much too large for most modern-day gardens, however, it is most welcome in the woodland area of ours. I just toss the fallen leaves underneath it each autumn and leave them.
