Everlasting Beauty

Everlasting Beauty

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Magnificent
magnolia
all year-long
your loveliness
blooms
In springtime
your flowers
overwhelm me
with a canopy
of petals
and perfume
Soon blossoms
flutter
as feathers
to earth
leaving behind
an emerald cape
accentuating
your girth
By mid-summer
day
your provision
of shade
shelters birds
and children
at play
Your cloak
turning
golden
in late autumn
reflects
the brilliance
of a sinking
sun
Until even
your leaves
fall to earth
telling me
this season
too…
is done
Yet
still
you’re richly
robed
as spring buds
begin
to fill
Fuzzy
and swollen
with potential
expanding
all winter
till spring
when your mantle
you’ll spill!
Everlasting Blessings ~ Wendy
This magnolia tree was planted, many years ago, by the previous owner of our place.  She said that her children loved to play under it.  It is much too large for most modern-day gardens, however, it is most welcome in the woodland area of ours.  I just toss the fallen leaves underneath it each autumn and leave them.
    1. Thank you, Calee! Mitty, our cat, follows us around the garden a lot. Sometimes she will appear out of nowhere and startle me with her very noticeable “Meow!”
  1. I had a sweet pang of remembrance at the word “magnolia”. My mom’s mom, my dear grandma, lived on Magnolia Drive and had a gorgeous magnolia tree in her yard. Those glossy, big leaves were distinct. The huge white blossoms always made me think of visiting her in Louisiana. Both the tree and my grandma have gone back to their Maker, but your poem brought to mind many happy memories!
    You have a tremendous variety of growth in your garden, and there is something to learn from God in each one! And, there are unique elements about each season–just like in our lives! Visiting your blog always leaves me pondering and giving praise to God! –Alison
    1. Thank you, Alison! It makes sense that a garden causes us to think deeper than the roots of the trees around us. It was in a garden that humans had their beginning. “Time began in a garden.”
      Your memory of your Grandma sounds so lovely! Both mine loved gardens, too. I have one’s antique canning jars and the other one’s old garden book.(plus her favorite poetry book…)
  2. I would so love to be able to grow a magnolia – can’t here, but maybe one day I’ll have the chance. They give so much all the year through, don’t they?
    1. Yes, they do. Our first year here was so magical as I discovered how lovely that tree is all year long. Today as I opened the curtains, upstairs, I could see that it is leafless, now, but covered in those fuzzy buds that promise a show in spring. I will try to catch some closeups of the flowers when they bloom…
      Our Creator was so articulate in his designing of flora and fauna!
  3. I loved all of this, that special tree and how you took us through the seasons with ‘her’. 🙂 God gives us many blessings and what you share with us from your garden is certainly blessing us! Thank you, Wendy!
    1. Thank you, Debbie! I am so glad it is a blessing to you. There are so many photos in my file and as many poems swimming around in my fish bowl of a brain!
