Late Summer Supplication

Thank you, Creator, for the gentleness

Of  the late summer sun

Basking under You

Now that the heat wave is done

Sun’s passion has waned

It’s glory is waxing

A second flush of blooms

On rejuvenated pansies…

Like me, do best

When fire’s intensity relents

Replaced by soft candlelight

The glow of late summer

May this twilight

Between rest and fury

Bring forth a harvest

Of  beauty to my soul

Shine gently but steadily

Upon all those…

Graciously planted

In my life’s garden

Draw me to drink

Deeply of dewdrops

Resting upon leaves

Of your Living Word

Nourish all dwelling here

Until sun’s fire blazes once more

We’ll not shrivel – but bloom!

Dust of Heaven on each petal.

PS

This poem/prayer came to me as I was having afternoon tea and reading my devotional in our courtyard.  I was simply thanking Him for the mellowness of the late August sun… when I realized my prayer was also a poem.  I’ve missed writing poems and I’m so glad to be back at it!

    1. I have a confession to make… I love red poppies and I am green over your recent poppy post. 😉 On Friday night I found some on the side of a walkway and my photos turned out blurry – boo hoo. As Winston Churchill says: “Never, never, never give up.” I’m going back there…

  1. Wow, I’m really impressed, Wendy–I love the poem/prayer very much, and I’m finding it difficult to choose faves among your photos. I just love it all!!! God bless you–love, Caddo
