The Good, the Bad and the Ugly!

God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.  Genesis 1:31  Some parts of God’s creation are easier to think of as good than others…  Some parts when stumbled upon accidentally just plain give me the creeps.  But then, even the creepy critters serve a purpose in the food chain. Either they are eaten or they are the eater.  Some are obviously helpful to the gardener.  But some seem a bit on the questionable side.  Even lowly slugs can serve a purpose as part of the cleanup crew.  But they also can destroy flowers in short order ( that was another pun).  Some of the little creatures are given cutesy names:  Daddy long-legs.  Then again, some are given a wide berth.  Ouch! Some have even been mentioned in the good book: ” Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise!”  Proverbs 6:6  Have you ever tried to take a picture of an ant?  Wow—it’s nearly impossible. They just don’t stop moving…  Some little crawlers come with old wives tales; I’ve never found one of these in my ear—have you?  I think bees and wasps have it made in our garden.  They love my greenhouse.  It’s organic, and I’m the only one crazy enough to take shots at them; though, only with my camera.  Some plants look more buggy than the bugs.  I think some are just plain cute.  Well, compared to this guy it was.  Don’t you think this little guy is going for gold? Dragonflies are the knights of the garden.  A personal favorite of mine.  But wait – didn’t God say that everything He created was “very good”? Just call me sweet on bugs.  Or should I be saying, bug on sweet pea?

  1. I have a tough time with mosquitoes and cutworms – I have to admit that I enjoy a good kill if I am accurate with my swat. So if everything is good, are we just looking at things with incomplete knowledge? Or are there some things which have snuck in with the Fall that are no longer as ‘good’ as they were created to be? Hmmmm…..

  4. Lovely photos! There’s so much life all around us and your photos capture it so well! Thanks for sharing! I’ve been dying to get a good photo of a dragon fly…I saw many on my recent camping trip to Eastern Washington but most of my spottings happened when I was swimming near the reeds growing along the lake edge. No camera while swimming ;(.

    1. Thank you. I completely lucked (gift) into this dragonfly photo. He/she was resting on my sidewalk. They have always intrigued me. Glad to hear you like swimming too. We just went swimming last night in a nearby lake. It was glorious! Cool & refreshing. Hope you catch a picture of a dragonfly soon… ~ Wendy

  7. Stunning pictures. I have been thinking about the title – ‘The Good, the Bad and the Ugly’. Maybe it’s down to our perception of how things are. I believe that nothing ever is as it appears to be. I am reminded of the words of William Shakespeare – “There is nothing good or bad, but thinking makes it so”. He was a very wise man. My little human mind thinks Ugh!! when I see a spider, but now I try and remember that the essence of the Divine, God, is within all things. I am enjoying your site very much. Thank you for sharing.     1. Thank you. You just reminded me of a song that has the line: “You make everything glorious!” God can create beauty from ashes. Even slugs have beauty. They are still not allowed in my greenhouse… I am loving your photos. Wales is definitely one of the glorious places on earth!
